Dogs are smart!

But your name is MalinoisK9 :)!

That's funny. I also have a German Shepherd, and I sometimes have to monitor my actions to stop from sending off signals. For example... I know I have a problem playing video games, when at night my dog goes down to my room, jumps on my bed, and lays down at the sound of the machine going off.
I so wish I had some videos sometimes of her little behaviors. I once caught her sitting directly in front of the answering machine, tilting her head from side to side, to the sound of a telemarketer's voice.
Around a month ago, I was leaning against the couch on the floor, she brings me her collar, drops it, goes and grabs my sandals, drops them, and sat in front of me giving me the stare, all without telling her to do any of it.

My German Shepherd is now retired as of this past November. My 3 1/2 year old Malinois is now the star of the show :)

Michael, my guess would be that many might not know what a Malinois was. Except us true blood dog people.
You always have the greatest stories about yours.

So, MalinoisK9, you show them?

Michael haha, it's funny that you say you wish you had videos of your dogs moments; I so do, too. More with the Mali than the Shepherd, but Ruger definitely pulls a couple cute cards every now and then. When we lived in our old apartment, his favorite thing to do in the morning was to climb on the bed, front paws on one of our chests and nuzzle one of us in the face...with that large of a dog it was like a battering ram trying to cuddle.

I do French Ring, UKC SDA Protection Dog Sport, and I'm looking to getting my foot in the door with PSA. No "Showing" for us... he'd rather bite. :) There is a video in my signature box of us just doing some informal scenario work.

Malinois are gorgeous dogs, I would love to see a picture! I just especially love German Shepherds, my Ciana being a main reason :), but all dogs are incredible. I would love to know more about Malinois, as I've only read about them, but they do seem like amazing dogs. The Tervuren (hope that's correct) is gorgeous too, and both seem similar to German Shepherds.

I can't ignore our bundle of joy Dachihuahua (Dachshund mix, we suspect Chihuahua). He isn't quite as adept, but he has the personality that everyone melts over. He's intelligent, don't get me wrong, but he's not quite as focused.

Dogs are really my favorite kind of people, so I love hearing these stories, thanks for sharing :).

I'm going to post a cute one of our Malinois, because I know Sheldon is going to post a bunch of trial/training pictures :)

I like Malinois simply for the fact that they've been largely spared the wrath of the showring... I can't even watch an American bred show shepherd walk without crying a little on the inside.

I watched it! Very obedient and very...scary dog. Beautiful.

I am with you 100%. It's extremely disappointing how many great breeds of dogs are being 'Americanized'.

I won't deny it... I openly mock them for the fact that their dog has no work drive and doesn't have the physical ability to do agility or the endurance to do herding.

I love how show people tampered with the terv but when they got to the mali there was just so much drive and it scared the lot of them.

Oh wow! That is a great looking dog, and quite the bite too. I think Ciana (my dog) would be really great at the protection training, I just personally wouldn't want to encourage that behavior in her, as she's as vigilant as I would want right now anyways.
I can trust her not to bite, but rely on her to protect, so that's about all that I want at this time, though it's impressive to see those type of protection dogs work. Thanks for sharing!

Funny fact about most biting dogs. We start by teaching the dog to bite then we teach the dog NOT to bite. Both of mine are CGC (Canine Good Citizen) Certified and Ruger my GSD is also TDI (Therapy Dog International) Certified. Yes my big boy can bite and the sooth the person in the hospital. LOL. But yea because the dogs we work with have sooooooo much natural genetic drive to work and bite, we spend alot of the time just teaching the dog when to bite and on advanced obedience. Its kind of funny when people come to watch us train and afterwards they are like "Hu, I though there would be more biting" (But we do get to show off their skills at times and none of us complain about that :) )

Ooooo I love the reds! I really wish mine had the redish coloration in his brown. How old is she? She is a beautiful girl!

True! It is very impressive how quickly they release. Perhaps it counters their instinct to bite in a sense, because you are regulating when and where to bite, so the dog must only do it on command. Great photos though, and highly impressive stuff!

She'll be three in December. She is a Red and Black, as opposed to a lot which are Tan and Black. She is my little pride and joy, and I love her to death (most of the time :)). She almost seems to have that Malinois athleticism too, as she is much more refined in shape, and can do some impressive acrobatics.
