Feeding Question

I just bought my corn snake on Sunday and the store stated they feed them every Wed. and Sat. Does that seem a little much?? I dont know how old he/she is other than the store received them 2 weeks ago. Also I just read that they should be fed in a seperate tank. What should be used for that? How big? Should I have an aspen bedding in it with a hide spot? How long should I leave him/her (I really need to get that gender figured out) in their? Thanks again for all the help, everyone has been responding quick for a forum and leaving very usefull info. Thanks.

Assuming the snake is an '09 (born this year), that feeding schedule sounds fine. Personally, I follow the Munson plan put together by Dean Arnold. It would really be best (and easiest) to buy a cheap kitchen scale and use it to weigh your snake. This will help you gage when and how much to feed.

Use something small with air holes in it. Small enough just to basically fit the snake and food item. One big plus to feeding in a separate container is that you avoid the issue of the snake swallowing bedding, so no, do not put aspen or a hide in it. Leave it in until it's done eating, and then either gently carry it back to its viv, or place the little tub in the viv and let it crawl out on its own.

I'd just let the snake settle in till this Sunday before attempting to feed him. I feed babies every five days. I get uncomfortable with a four day interval, and would not feed at a three day interval.
 
I agree with Nanci - I prefer 5 day intervals at the most. Every 3 days is really pushing his digestive system.

If you do a search on here for "Munson Plan" as Emily suggests, that's an excellent set of guidelines to start you off. You might have to tweak it a little as they all grow at slightly different rates, but you'll get the hang of it after a few weeks.
