Drilling holes in sterilite tubs...

i've never done this, but was thinking that if you had a piece of pegboard, you could lay that out along where you wanted to drill/solder your holes and then they would be evenly spaced and you wouldnt need to measure much of anything, just a thought, dont shoot me if the practicality of that suggestion is low.

hmm, actually...this doesn't sound like a half bad possibility.

I've been contemplating making some sort of template myself, like out of a strong piece of paper with holes cut where I want them. Then take a marker and dot each hole onto the tub, and then melt away. And then reuse the template, etc..

Soldering iron or drill but if you choose the former make sure you are in a well ventilated space; the fumes are toxic. As for perfect spacing I use a jig/pattern out of lexan with double sided sticky tape. That way every box turns out exactly like the first one. OCD of the world unite!:dancer:

I used a dremel on mine. It worked great, no bits left around the holes I just had to take the extra plastic off the bit after every row (on 32 qt tubs). Needle nose pliers are my friend.

Oh excellent, I found the answers I needed. New snakes to arrive at the end of the week, so I need some vivs quick. Now I know how to make the ventilation holes so WalMart here I come!

I'm with the soldering iron crowd. No cracks or sharp edges, plus the free buzz after doing a bunch is an added bonus.

You got to be kidding me . Free Buzz. I been doing this for many years not once did I ever get a buzz. It is your imagination at work. The fumes dont get you high and are extreemly toxic.

I use a soldering iron in a well ventilated rooom.

Me I have a much easier method...."it is the sharpie marker and here honey I need more holes again" method. I places dots on the buckets with a sharpie and then my hubby or teenager get to drill them all for me. It's quick, easy and I never have any clean up after. Just the way I like it!

I use to make hole in patches that my daughter gets in soccer games. I came up with torching a nail and melting it through the patch. You can do something like that..heat up a thin nail (finish nail) over the stove and using pilers to hold on to it then put the hot nail through the tub.

Dude thats such a stone age method. The big break through was the soldering iron. Who wants to wait for a nail to get hot. The needle of the soldering iron stays hot so you can make holes a lot more faster.

Another vote for a soldering iron. I run an extension cord to the front porch and do it outside. It's always nice to see the neighbors look at me funny as they walk by.

And I only paid... zilch. I borrowed it from a fellow herper friend, who borrowed it from her herper friend... but the owner knows I have it and where I live, so it's all good. Not like it would be a huge deal to buy my own, but a dollar is a dollar right?

Options Vinman options......

Don't you still do things old school???

It all depends, that nail thing stinks, if you get the nail too hot it melts the hole too big . It is messy and after doing a bunch of holes it get hard to keep a tight grip to keep the nail straight. A soldering iron is so much easer and more safe . I have 2 soldering iron That I use for making holes in containers. One is for larger holes and one is for smaller holes.

young people come on here and might think they can get a cheap high. My name aint francis. When you make a joke you need to use the emoticon to the left of the page.

It's a shame that some of us don't have a sense of humor.

I have a great sense of humor, I don't find nothing funny about some kid breathing poisonous gas thinking they going to get high. There are icons to the right of the page to express emotion none of them were used.
