How long should a corn soak?

my snake has sometimes spent well over an hour soaking normaly when he is due to shed. so i would not be to worried unless anyone has any other points for you.

Sounds more like your snake has been under stress for an hour.
Corns are not Water Moccasin. If you have a shed issue, raise the humility!!

funny I don't get rep's for spelling.

First of all.... is there an issue with the snake shedding.
If so, have you tried misting to rise the levels?? Or larger water bowl or making a humid hides.

Well, Ive been reading online and from what I can tell it seems to be normal for them to soak. Dunno, Im new to this and just researching as I go.

Soaking is general only used for a snake that has had a bad shed, not for a snake about to shed. I've also had to soak one of my snakes in warm water when he was sick, but that was the doctor's orders. I think it is also okay to soak a snake if they have had trouble with having a bowel movement, as the water can help stimulate them to...go. :}

:shrugs:dunno~ Just trying to figure out the behavior. Wondering what to do.
Lennycorn, Im sure you are much more experienced than I am that is why I come here for advice. I in no way was trying to make fun of your typo just trying to clarify what you ment....couldda been some snake lingo I didn't know :)
Please keep in mind, this is ALL new to me. I come to people like you to learn :)

Heck, I make fun of my typoo poo's.
It's all good here. I'm just trying to clarify something and maybe my typed words sound .......rough to you but.... is the snake having issue for you to need to soak it??
That's all I'm asking.
But soaking for an hour did shock me!!

Thanks :) No, he just climbed in his water bowl. He is still there, I do think he may be ready for a shed.....Im going to email the previous owner since we keep in touch. We handle him ALOT but previous owner said she did is well.(and encouraged me to as well) He is so docile and loving..(*I* think anyways) ;-)
Just want to make sure everything is cool!

Might be worth double-checking the temps - sometimes they soak because they're overheating. I don't think an hour in a waterbowl is a cause for concern, especially as ambient humidity is extra-low where you are, but it's just a quick check that'd put your mind at rest.

A few of mine spend a lot of time soaking in their water bowls, generally for a few hours at a time...nothing to be worried about as long as his temps are fine and he doesn't have mites (you'd see them in his water if he did). :)

Thanks! He is in the water again today and has been for over an hour.

as stated above look for pepper looking things in water dish (snake mites) how long have you had this snake and has it shed for you yet?they first go into blue their eyes get milky white due to secretions that allow them to separate the two skins then they clear up and will generally shed in 24 hours to a week.

As mentioned, it might be a good idea to check for mites. Check the water dish for little black specs floating around. Could be he is in his water constantly trying to rid himself of mites.

No mites and he not due to shed. I keep my house overly warm though since Im always cold! He is 2 yrs old :)

*still soaking*

Perhaps then if you keep your house overly warm, then maybe you are not providing a proper temperature gradient for you snake. He may simple be sitting in his water because you have not provided a cool area for him to regulate his temperature, so he is self regulating by sitting in his water.
A good heat gradient is to 85 degrees on the warm side and 75 degrees on the cool side.
