How long should a corn soak?

how are you heating his tank?lights under the tank heater uth? and what is the temp if you have a temp gauge?

Perhaps then if you keep your house overly warm, then maybe you are not providing a proper temperature gradient for you snake. He may simple be sitting in his water because you have not provided a cool area for him to regulate his temperature, so he is self regulating by sitting in his water.
A good heat gradient is to 85 degrees on the warm side and 75 degrees on the cool side.

Well, he has a warm side and a cool side.

What are the temps of each side? Again, you said you keep you house rather warm, and you just mentioned you don't use a guage on your heat mat(meaning thermostat I assume) so maybe the warm side is a bit too warm??? and the cool side is hot because you keep you house hot???:shrugs:

Ya, maybe so. I don't have a gauge yet so Im not sure of temps. Im getting some stuff this week so that will help me figure it out :)

He's probably fine, some snakes like to soak ( I think some members thought you were soaking the snake in a separate container, this is done for stuck sheds). If you do have a 'dry' house making a moist hide and placing it in the viv when you see him go blue wouldn't be a bad idea. A moist hide is a container ( Tupperware etc..) that has a large hole cut into the top and has a substrate that is moist, I use spagnum moss ( basically because I have it for an egg box which is pretty much the same thing ) you can use paper towels that are cut up into 2-3" strips and then wet and wrung until damp ( not soaking). My snakes prefer to be in them even when they're not ready to lay or shed.

ps) The subsrate does need to be changed periodically.

I would remove the uth. If your house is warm and the uth is unregulated (as in no thermostat to control it) his tank is over 100 degrees. Take it off now, don't feed this week, and get a thermostat or rheostat ASAP he is overheating if you ask me:)

That is what I was thinking so I unplugged the uth. He climbed out of the water dish a bit ago. I also had the oven on which makes our little house HOT. I will figure it out one way or another.
