Great Basin Gophersnake

Found an absolutely outstanding specimen of gophersnake last night. At about 4 foot long, this guy was fairly calm and posed very nicely for me in a pile of rocks. Outstanding coloration, and just a gorgeous snake in general–

I love these snakes. You never know what kind of attitude you are going to get with them. Some are large, angry, and ready to bite, and others, like this one, are quite gentle and content to pose. Whatever you get, it will be a wonderfully adapted desert species, and a natural beauty.

Thanks for taking the time to look!

Great pics as usual Chris and that is a very pretty/handsome looking Gophersnake :)

Thank you for taking the time to share!

Thanks, everyone, for the comments!

I'm glad you can see the orange and red tones in the photos. I wasn't sure they were going to "pop" right, as it can be very difficult getting natural colors with unnatural light(I used a shoe-mount flash unit). But these are a very accurate representation of his actual coloring. He was a very pretty snake...

He has great yellows & oranges & they show up well on the pictures, Chris. As usual, great pictures. And I think he is a really handsome specimen, too.

Beautiful photos and gorgeous snake. Looking at his size, I'll bet he doesn't have any problems catching his meals!
