3.0 Sunkissed Motley

Jay@PJCReptiles

"Quality Before Quantity"
Hi Everyone.

We were fortunate enough to have three of these guys pop up this year. They are Sunkissed Motley. Only thing that really stinks is the fact hat all three are male. Oh well, such is life. They are all very bright and have great head patterns while also expressing the "white cheeks". The thing with pairing Sunkissed and Motley is the fact that they tend to play against one another and some of the offspring tend to have aberrancies with their belly checks. Two of them have this anomaly while the third has a perfectly clear belly. The one with the clear belly was produced by parents carrying the hets while the two that have the aberrant checks were produced by two perfectly clear belly Motley parents. This is something that I am trying to grasp but it seems that more test breeding needs to be done. I took some pictures of them right after their first sheds and thought I would share them with you. Thanks for looking and I hope you like.

OH My god! All three are soooo damn cute!!!!!
I love how each has a different head pattern!..Congrast guys!

Love ya!

~~'Manda:)

Absolutely gorgeous creatures! Please name the second snake shown, the first with the aberrant belly Rorschach! He's got such a great head pattern!

How many of these exist? I remember reading about them in the past, but it seems like they're still pretty rare. No matter what craziness Sunkissed is throwing in the mix with the belly checkers, they're GREAT looking snakes! I love the one with the clear belly, but I think "Rorschach" is my favorite.

Jay I definitely want one of those. I also need a couple sunkissed females, if you get any. We need to get together, I need your opinion on one of my clutches. I got a huge array in one clutch, including a hypo pewter. Talk to you soon.

Beautiful hatchlings!

Slightly :-offtopic, but not by much...have you noticed a trend for the aberrant belly pattern in the het motley Sunkissed, or even the poss het motley Sunkissed siblings/parents (patternless belly, or maybe a couple of checks on the neck and part-way down, turning into a more normally patterned belly, plus having a more motley-like dorsal pattern to match the belly pattern)? I got a pair like that last year from a clutch 100% het Sunkissed and possible het motley. This year, the clutch of 100% het motley Sunkissed has quite a few with the aberrant belly pattern, but still has some hatchlings with normally patterned bellies. Could this be a potential het marker (but one that doesn't always show up) or could it simply be something my male Sunkissed throws in his offspring?

I have photos, but will take me awhile to crop and resize.

I know it has been a while since I have addressed this thread and figured it was about time I did. Thanks for the replies everyone I am happy you like them.

Susan,
I have not forgotten about your post. I have actually taken my time gathering pictures and figuring out exactly how I want to reply with the information I have. Give me a little more time and I will post pictures of the animals, past/present, that will help me answer your questions. I think there may be something to the "Het Marker" term after all. When it comes to Sunkissed anyway. Give me a couple more days to put it all together.

Jay

Wow! We may actually get a nice, in depth, genetics discussion underway.
Imagine that? :grin01: :sidestep:

I have a pair of Hypos het Sunkissed Motley that I got from Susan. Both have belly checkers which look very similar to your Sunkissed Motleys. The top half or so is very scarce of checkers, then the bottom half are speckled. My pair have more belly checkers once the belly checkers appear than these Sunkissed Mots, but I think they are still kind of odd and when I saw them they reminded me of this thread.

I've taken a few shots of each of their bellies. Would you like me to post them here so you can add them to your compilation? It's definitely very interesting. To me it seems like a het marker. I wonder if this het marker is specific only to snakes that are het for Sunkissed and Motley?

Hi Jessica,
Yes, please post your pictures as I feel it will fit right in to this discussion. Thanks in advance.

Very nice I love how Sunkissed is such a unique gene that it affects color and pattern. I find it weird that it combines well with Stripes but overrides the Motley gene.
