This is my Indonesian Blue Tongue Skink, Sheila. For those who don't have experience with BTS, I would highly recommend them if you are considering getting any new reptiles. They are great pets!

Cool! I really like these, but I have never really met one. Or even handled one. Probably a good thing, so I don't get infected and have to get one like I did with Rosy Boas, Gargoyle Geckos and Hognose Snakes.

That's not THAT bad. :D I think these guys are kinda weird looking but I have heard they make nice pets.

We just moved our blue tongued skink to a larger vivarium this weekend. He's now in a 3' x 1' viv and is loving it. I even put in some ledges to see if he climbs and turns out he will do a bit of climbing to get up and bask. He is one of my favorites from our reptile collection.

I've only ever gotten one or two nice tongue shot pics of Avery, and this was the "best." They are tough to shoot...

What are you feeding yours? Ours is getting a mix of different types of veggies each week, along with crickets, superworms and tomato horn worms.

I Love BTS...It was a hard toss-up between the Chameleons and BTS for me..I ended up w/a Cham' though.....The next time I'm in market for another "Lizard".....It WILL be a BTS!!
Both of you...Congrats!
Beautiful animals!!!...

Great picture! I am also feeding mine a variety of veggies, along with some fruits and a little bit of chicken cat food. Sheila doesn't seem to like crickets but she LOVES superworms so she gets a bunch if those every once in a while.

Good choice on the Cham! I have a male veiled as well. They are great. I just love lizards in general really...:)

BTS are awesome guys...but I cannot stand crickets! They drive me absolutely nuts and stink, so no BTS in the near future for that reason alone...but Sheila is a cutie ;)

BTS actually don't have to be cricket eaters. In fact, mine doesn't even like crickets. They are omnivores and like a staple of mostly veggies, some fruits, and some meat (chicken, worms, snails, etc...). Some people even feed adult blue tongues an occasional pinky.

Ohhh really? If I could get one on meat, mealworms or pinkies (and veggies) it would be a real possibility :dancer:

Oh shes cute! What sort of temperament do they have? And how big do they get?

Thanks! They generally have great temperaments. Sheila is a bit skittish, only because she is wild caught, but she mellows down after you hold her for a few minutes. How big they get depends on which locale they are. Sheila is an Indonesian, and is full grown at around 16-18 inches including her tail. Most other locales are around this same size, but Meraukes can be quite a bit bigger and have much longer tails.

My BTS is a very picky eater....she will only eat canned cat food and bananas....ive tried giving her different types of fruit, mealworms, crickets, and veggies, but she wont touch any of it...
