Here's the set up as it stands. Hopefully I'll bring home a new snake from Repticon Dallas this weekend! I figured it might be a good idea to have everyone here double check how things look. I feel pretty confident but there's always room for improvement!

I put the aspen in two days ago to temps can stabilize. Right now it's at 85/65. The only thing I can think of is a way to secure the lid. I'll go pick up some Velcro tomorrow from the crafts store. I'm not certain our WalMart has what I need.

Here's the specs:

40gal tank and screen cover
Thermometers on warm and cool side
Herpstat Intro+ probe on warm side
Hygrometer in the middle
2 hides on each side
Climbing branch statue (with tp tube on bottom in open section)
Water bowl

Those are some impressive digs! It looks ready to me.

I know you are on top of securing the lid. If it's not (I can't tell) the recommended spot for the water is on the cool side.

I don't think you need anything else. I only suggest this because my little one loves his so much, but a plastic vine suction cupped to the back wall is something your little snake might enjoy. My little guy spent his whole day in his vine again today. I took this pic of him today. I didn't have a vine when I first got him, either, so you can always add later. But if they have one cheap at the show... ;)

I'll scoot the water over a bit more to the cooler side. Maybe I could hang some vines (suction cup?) behind the log? That's a great idea. Thanks!

Yes, they stick to the glass. Just be sure to wet the suction cup and get as much air out as possible. Then they stick well. The one in the pic is Exo Terra brand Amapallo size small. For a 40 gallon viv you might want a medium. And there certainly are other brands or you can even make one yourself with dollar store materials, but so far I really like these the best.

It's true, my amel spends 80% of his day chillin' in his vines.
They really seem to enjoy curling up in them.
Your set up is awesome!

I agree, for a new kiddo they LOVE to hide and the more clutter in the viv the better! I use silk and plastic aquarium plants and they love them.

The hide log is the exact one we have and my snake got inside of it. I got it from the previous owner and when our snake went missing, and after reading on here, I realized it had a hoel int he bottom but it looked like it was a broken off spot, not that it same that way. I think there is a small hole in it though- plug it up!

The entire bottom of the log is hollow - it is not the hide log of horrors, I checked before I bought it! I'll get a picture when I get home tonight. Also, I added vines throughout the viv to give more cover. There's an updated picture in Atlas' progression thread in the gallery section.

If you're asking about the climbing branch, I'll double check it but I didn't think I saw anything when I bought it. It's from PetsMart's line of reptile items.

I'm talking about the tall climbing tree thing. I lost my snake because of that thing (if it's the hide I think it is. There are a few holes and even though you think snake can't fit in there, snake may be able to.)

I can tell you it's not a hide. It's just a branch - there are no open areas intended for hiding/shelter. There is one small hole (like a hole punch size) on the bottom of one of the feet that we plugged with silicone in case he knocked it over one day. However, I had my boyfriend pull it out and I'll go back over it tonight.

I'm glad it's not a hide! It's a cool looking branch thing, though! I need to get one for each of my corns!
