Any Bracketologists?? It's March Madness, bay-bee!!

The Rule Of Thirds.
Any basketball fans out there? I'm not talking about the charge-the-stands-and-beat-the-bejeezus-out-of-the-fans NBA prima donnas here. I'm talking NCAA tourney....

I think just about all the #1 seeds have a shot, with the exception of Washington (who backed into their position, imho...). UConn, Kansas, Kentucky, Syracuse, and Wake Forest all have a chance, too.

But personally.....and I mean that the fullest sense, once you read on....I'm rooting for Illinois. I usually bleed Wisconsin Badger red when it comes to college sports, but I'd like to see Illini coach Bruce Weber win it all. I spent my early teens playing hoops with him and his brothers, was coached by his father, Lou, in the 8th grade, and I must attest, the success and achievements he has had couldn't happen to a nicer, humbler guy.

And, sadly, I'll be personally wishing him the best of luck Tuesday morning, along with my condolences. If you followed the Big Ten tournament this past weekend, you're familiar with the story of his mother's passing just before the tournament started.

Anyhow, without getting maudlin.......does anyone else have a Final Four favorite?

regards,
jazz

Well, Dale, I guess I'd have to go with Wake Forest. "Madness" in March takes on a whole new meaning here in NC with being w/in a 50 mile radius of NC State, UNC, and Duke. Going to downtown Raleigh without seing someone painted in red, light blue, or dark blue is unheard of. I haven't had a chance to follow it yet this season, but I really prefer college bball to the NBA. (Unlike football and baseball where I prefer the pros)

Oh my... I am obviously SO not a basketball fan. I had no idea what March Madness meant but from the "Bracketologist" comment I could only imagine you have a weird liking for Bracket fungi and my best guess was that March is a good time to go out and look for it. :shrugs:

Not this, huh?

Duke plays great as a team (and has the best active coach in the game), but lack of depth may expose them. UNC has the most talent in the country, but doesn't always play together, and seemed sloppy in the ACC tourney, so I pick them to get upset. Washington? Um, no. Illinios.. maybe

But I'll pick Wake to cut down the nets. Unless Duke gets on a roll. Or Illinois. Or MAYBE Louisville. :sidestep:

Wow, the first weekend isn't even over, and Kansas, Syracuse, and Wake are all out. Shows what I know.

Meanwhile, Illinois will play the tourney Cinderella, UW-Milwaukee, on Thursday.....which is, ironically, Bruce Weber's alma mater.

It's been fun watching the games thus far....

All the good team are out of the NCAA and Texas Tech is in the Sweet 16. :shrugs:

I'm only watching the NIT now. My 21-9 Aggies are now in the third rounds. Not bad for a team that was 7-21 last year. :dancer:

I hope my Terps meet your Aggies in the finals. At least we have a herp name. What is an Aggie, anyhow?

Farmers = agriculturalists = "aggies"

Terp......that's like a Cooter, right?

So we're down to the Elite Eight....

What happened to Tobacco Road? UNC is the only team left, and barely.....Villanova gave 'em a good challenge.

This midwest boy will thump chest for 3 seconds for the Big Ten, a second for each team left.

So, with what's left, who's going to the Final Four? My picks:

Illinois vs. Arizona <----- Illinois
Louisville vs. West Virginia <----- Louisville
Kentucky vs. Michigan State <----- Kentucky
Wisconsin vs. North Carolina <----- My brain says NC, but my heart says UW

Anyone else?

jazz

Sad Dale, very sad. NC State and Duke just lost it in the last 2 minutes, gave up WAY too many fouls! (Haven't seen the news yet to see how UNC fared)
