World's Greatest Feeding Chart

Nanci

Alien Lover
Voila! The Munson Plan, put in a chart, with each snake's picture printed out and stuck to the corresponding row with that gum stuff. Lila is at the bottom because I don't know how much she weighs. When I weigh a snake, I just have to move their icon to the next row, if necessary. Then, when I go to feed, I look at the row and pick out the appropriate-sized meal.

In real life, Addy isn't getting a hopper- she's getting 12 grams of big pinks/small fuzzies. No way I'm trying to stuff a hopper down her throat.

I guess I just have to hope they stay two to a level till everyone reaches adulthood!

Snakes in two hours or less!!

You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to Nanci again.

Well damn.

Awesome chart non the less, mind if I borrow the idea for my impending corny?

neat idea.. and I like the paper you printed it out on too. what software did you use? Microsoft word?

Actually it's on MS Publisher. I made that paper a long time ago- with clip art, and have it saved, and then I just add whatever I'm printing on top of it.

Lila is getting her own line- 26 grams!

oh okay kewl.. I'll have to try something similar in MSWord. heh.. glad both your snakes made it home to you safe and sound. now where are those pics?

suppose that works fairly well if you keep only the same type of snake...
but different snakes can use different sized prey items.
for instance
my "170+g" carpet python wouldn't even bother to look at a mouse....
or
my 100g amazon tree boa would still be starving after a single weaned mouse. she'd rather have a couple, and an adult mouse is too girthy.

all in all, not a bad idea though
but feeding cards would work just as well...
and with 26 snakes to feed, i manage to go by memory pretty well

I think Dean's chart is optimized for colubrids. Since I've adopted it, my snakes are shedding at at least 30 day intervals. But yeah, there's no continuation for big adults that will be eating multiple mice or rats. I guess by then it's not so critical- you know what prey size is swallowable and the snake itself tells you how much it takes to fill it up.

Wonderful idea...and I love the title of this thread, because if I ever forget the name "Munson" (god forbid!), I'll for sure have enough sense to search "feeding plan" (as I did all those months ago when I first acquired my first baby, Maizie...and I found just about zilch!).

And, if you ever have more than one snake to a line, you could always write their names on post-its & trim them to size so that they fit on your chart...better yet: you should laminate your chart. I'd do it for you on my school's laminator...! (Ok, ok...it's been a long school day... :crazy02: )

I need to get it laminated! And laminate their little icons, too! Great idea! I _do_ have two in one section- Addy and Choco. I didn't think of the stick-ons till a few days after I'd made the chart. I can always make a new one with a blank space for snake icons.

Dean has the plan stickied down in his forum if you ever need to find it quickly.

LMAO notepad! How did you manage that?!

i love your feeding chart its so good. i printed it out and now i'm using it for my snake its is so clear perfect thank you so much for making a really cool one.

More than two years and 20+ snakes later, I still reference that chart all the time, mostly for decisions about when to bump up. I used to print little pictures of everyone and put them on the row they were on, just for fun. They wouldn't all fit now!
