hey i got my corn snake in june 2009 was told then that he was 3 months old, i lost him on the 12 sep the day before i went on holls, gave up loking for him eventualy

last week the 26th jan i found him or should i say my kitten found him at the side if the dryer i pulled across to clean that morning,

i put him back in his viv, he was about one third bigger and not skinny at all i left him there for two days in the quiet , then fed him a pinkey 3 days after i fed him another one,
no prob eating them

last night i notictd he was part shedding so i gave him a watter bath to loosen the skin

im just wondering is there any thing i missed or any thing a should, should not of done

You're very lucky the kitten didn't play with him to death! ;) My cat is enthralled with the snakes.

Eating is a very good sign but you might want to go a little longer than than three days, or at least be sure that he's pooped between feedings. He'll gain weight with a normal feeding schedule, so don't feel the need to push him. Try to get better latches for his viv, or use something heavy on it to be sure he can't escape again. I'm glad you had a good outcome!

Also, welcome to the forum! :wavey:

it was a shock to find him tho,
was wondering if i should move him up to fuzzies yet??? i had started him on them before he went missing his next feed is fri ,

he did poop in the days between feeding,

im worried as i havent had him for to long before he went missing , the shop keeper told me to get a bigger viv when he reaches full arms lenth, which he said would be in a year to a year and a half, but he is that size now
when would u recomend to change to a bigger one?

What size is he in now? I keep my adult corn in a 30g long. Tubs are much easier to clean, though, as well as being less expensive.

I'm a more conservative feeder, so like many of us conservatives, I like to go two double pinkies before moving up a prey size. A good rule of thumb is that the prey item is no more than 1.5 times the width of the widest part of the snake.

A good rule of thumb is that the width plus the length of the cage should add up to more than the length of the snake. Does that make sense?

So if I was reading our post right your snake was born in like March of 2009, so not quite a year old yet correct. I think at this age he is fine to move to a bigger size if you would like but I also think at this time it probably isn't necessary yet if you don't want but then did you say what size home he is in now? Sorry I probably confused the heck out of you. I have the majority of my Summer 2009's still in 15q tubs. Only a two of my 2009's have moved up to a full size tub but honestly they didn't need to I just wanted the convenience of no more latches on the smaller tubs. What size is he in now.

my snake is 26 inch in lenth give r take an inch or two
the tub i have him in is
lenth, 16 inch
with 10 inch
depth 7 inch

dose that sound ok???? thanks guys for ur help
ill post up some pix today

I have my almost 2 year olds in 28 qt tubs and my "almost" yearlings in 12 qt tubs. Then I have my 05 in a 41 qt tub. I hope that helps :)

I would say it is about time to move to a bigger tub. You might be alright for a little while but you are pushing it a little.

Congrats on finding your long-missing snake safe & sound, lalots!

When it comes to the size of his viv, it's really more of a size issue than an age issue. (Snakes' maturity is a more function of size rather than age as well.) Most corns do like to climb, but they also spend a lot of their time burrowing in the substrate and exploring along the ground level.

Here's a handy rule of thumb for ground dimensions. It works well for the usual rectangular vivs. The length of your snake should be more than the length of one long and one short side added together. Hope that helps!

Mind? Of course not. That's exactly what I MEANT to type. :headbang: I guess that happened because I was feeding my face while feeding my corn snake habit.

Thanks, Wade! :bowdown::bowdown:

Now on to the more intriguing question of why Wade can read my mind.....
