Best way to move across the country with snakes?

Hello,
My girlfriend and I will be moving across the country in a few months and I'm trying to figure out the best way to transport my two snakes with us. My thoughts so far are to get for each snake a smaller opaque rubbermaid tub and put a good amount of air holes in each one. Then tape an ultratherm UTH under each side and plug the heaters into one of the 12v converts that plugs into the cigarette lighter. Thus the snakes wouldn't be able to get freaked out by the action outside of the tubs and they can still have a hot and warm side inside the tub. I thought I could probably glue down a couple of temporary hides in the box as well as a small H2O bowl. Of course at night I could just take the tubs into our motel room and plug them right into the wall. Please let me know what you think of this idea as the move will probably take us a week or so since we are driving from Oregon to Florida. Any helpful hints would be awesome. Thanks and have a good night.

I messed up in my origional posting. The UTH would obviously only be under one side of the tub and thus have a warm spot and a cool side.

I would suggest just putting each snake in a pillow case and then into their own Sterilite tub. Heat is not necessary in the car. Make sure to keep them out of direct sunlight. Heat and water can be given in the motel room...no food within a week of the trip. Good luck!

I agree with Josh that the special traveling viv and heat won't be necessary for the trip. I might suggest a styrofoam box like those used to ship snakes to help maintain a steady temperature and protect the snakes while traveling. In a couple of months, just the sun shining through the window can raise the temps enough to perhaps do some harm. And if it's really hot on the last leg of your trip, as it can do here in the south, you can even add a ice pack as I would rather see them on the cooler side than too hot.

We drove from the WA-OR border to AL with our snakes. We just withheld food for a week or two before the trip and didn't worry about heating them. We also were "camping" so didn't have the luxury of a hotel room where we could plug in heat, etc. They did nearly freeze one night when we wound up sleeping in the car at a truck stop and it was crazy cold...I figured by mid-March it wouldn't be so bad! But, everyone was fine and our snakes (and dogs, and cats, and bird) are some well-traveled pets! I hope you find the time on your drive to stop and see some of the country!

I agree with everyone but I have something to add. Kudos for you for taking your snakes and not rehoming them!
