I noticed after feeding my corn on Thursday that the eyes were cloudy blue. My son and I haven't handled him since. Actually he has been hiding most of the time anyway. I am just changing the water daily and tring to mist in the area where he is hiding (he hates being misted). Is this the right thing to do? Also, how long until this process is over, and should I look for any problems?

Thanks

After a couple of days the eyes will clear up again. The actual shed will take place within a week.

The only thing to watch for is making sure that the entire skin is shed, including the tail tip and the eye caps. If the shed is in one whole piece then you're good to go! :)

Legoless had his first shed with us 2 weeks ago. I saved it for his "baby" book. *wink* Ok...I saved it so I know that he was only 16 inches long when he came to live with us.

If you're using the shed as a size indicator, it's not very accurate. The skin stretches considerably, so it's usually larger than the snake actually is. You can use serpwidgets snake measurer program to more accurately measure your snake. A digital photo of the snake next to an object of known size is used.

Not to hijack, but along the same lines...is it okay to handle them when their eyes are cloudy and they're about to shed? Because of feeding our little one hasn't really been handled since Thursday. I had her out for a bit yesterday, but she seemed irritable so I put her back. Thanks.

It doesn't hurt the snake physically, but they tend to be crotchity, defensive, and snappy since they can't see very well during the blue phase.

blues...
