Eastern Ribbon Snake, (thumnophis sauritus)!! Well went out fishing with the family today. When the fish stoped biting I went for a herp hunt. Found a few leopard frogs and a wood frog. One northern water snake. For me the best find was the two Eastern ribbon snakes. One was a baby/yearling and the adult i got pic of.

Yes the color's on the snake were that vivid.

That's awesome. Pretty little thing. Surprised it didn't bite or crap on you.....
 
Thanks to the both of you! I was expecting to some type of defensive behavior from him but he was clam as can be. I think todays temp played a part in his behavior.

I was extremely excided to find one! :dancer:

I was gonna say... those guys (the ribbon snakes I've held) sure do love to bite into me! LOL. Great that he was so calm. GREAT pics too! Thank you for sharing them with us!

The background in your pics looks exactly like my weekend hangouts. I bet I have a thousand pics with the same kind of terrain. I'm about to head out there now.
 
Awesome find! I love ribbon snakes. When I catch them they are a little fiesty at first, but settle down pretty quickly. Not without a musk or two first, though.

Very nice! Boy does that bring back the memories. I had one of those for close to a dozen years. Very first snake that I kept more than a few weeks. The one I happened to catch was pregnant and ended up giving me 14 babies....those were fun to feed and let go.

the specimen I got the other day bit me nine times before I released her.
