2 year old behavior?

My snow is a male, I assume, based on how quickly the tale tapers after the vent and how long the tail is.

He has been highly active recently. He's my classroom pet, but his viv is up to standards with temps and humidity, etc.
He was fed this morning (medium adult mouse- left no visible bulge. He'll be moved to large once he finishes the medium in the freezer) and has been actively circling his viv ever since. Generally he hides for a few days to digest and eventually sticks his head out of hide. Today, though, he's circling like crazy.

Tell me it's normal behavior for a 2 year old male snake to look for a girlfriend. :)

Yep, love is in the air! It sounds like typical mating behavior.

If you aren't sure of the sex then I would make a lay box just in case he's a she and is gravid and needs to lay her eggs (explaining why she is so frantic). A dark box with damp sphagnum moss in it is the best and, if she is a she and goes into the box, give her some time before checking in the box.

If the tail tapers quickly after the vent, that sounds more like a female tail. Males can definitely get restless in the spring but sometimes females can too. And like smigon said, if he is actually a she, she may be looking for a place to lay eggs.

Dang, Olivia, I meant to say that in my answer too! Good call!

I had two girls gravid last spring and this was exactly what happened. One was 13 years old and frantically looking for a place to lay but because I was a newbie I didn't know they could have eggs if they didn't breed I just ignored her frantic behavior of hissing, striking at the glass, biting me every time I changed her water. As soon as I read up on this I made her a laybox with damp sphagnum moss and she went right in, laid 13 slugs and crawled out and died. It was so sad, I wish I had known better. My other girl laid her slugs in the middle of her viv and was fine, but I know what to look for this spring.
