im thinking about getting into snakes, and so i naturally migrated here

my first question is, in the summer time here, my room gets to about 82 or 83 degrees, i have a few geckos ans thats what their enclosures measure.
so it seems that the cool side will be quite warm and the hot side will be about normal with no heating.
1. how can i cool the cool side down?

in the winter, my room gets as low as 65*
2.what size UTH will i need to get the hot side up to a suitable number?
3.what should i do about heating the cool side to a suitable number as well?

now a question about striped corns.
i sem to really like them, and will most definately be my choice
4. do stripes become more defined as they age, or what you see at hatchling is what you get?
like ive seen the top stripes, or side stripes, start out nice and solid then start to break up

thanks
Tony

i didnt see an edit post feature but with regards to the UTH size, i plan on getting a 29 gallon tank most likely

I live in TX and during the summer it rarely gets below 80 degrees in my house; 83-85 during the day and 78-80 at night. I'm a poor grad student and just can't afford to run the A/C non stop. So during the summer I don't run any heating devices; this means they have no temperature gradient. Ideally you would want one; but I have seen no ill effects from not having one so long as the overall temp stays moderate.

UTH size: I'd say you'd want one that is covers about 1/3 of the tank.

As for stripes; can't really comment from personal experience. All I have is a yearling and hatchling stripe; no adult.

My experience with stripes is limited to the one ghost stripe male I have had since he was a baby and now have his striped offspring. His stripe faded and got less distinct as he grew up.
I think the fading may be something that is related to the type of morph. I have some hets I'm keeping back to produce striped hypos but that's a few years down the road..
