You mean Joey? He was bought as an 'Irish cob'. He does have hairy moonboots, is short-coupled and has quite a flashy action so he's probably from the lines that produce the gypsy cobs or vanners for 'flashing' at the traditional fairs.
I'm sure my riding boots saved me from doing worse to my ankle but getting them off was quite a trial!

Just a bit! I am lucky that I've got quite a high pain threshold. I was disappointed Kim wouldn't let me ride today, even on a lunge-lesson, I pretended it didn't hurt at all until she insisted on looking at the ankle!

Hurrah! After inspecting my cankle Kim agreed I could ride today, so after a marathon shopping expedition (books, dvds, cds) and lunch out in town, we took Merlin and Curo out for a 2 hour hack. We stayed in walk most of the way, but as a benefit of the exercise Merlin's getting from his new rider he now strides out with purpose without needing encouragement. It was so easy to ride him I was absolutely delighted! On the way home we pushed the boys into working trot and again it was effortless to get Merlin to keep pace with Curo the whole time!

Thanks! Having a fitter, more eager Merlin to ride was great! He's on loan 3 times a week to an endurance rider who is without her own horse at the moment and her working on his fitness levels and giving him a purpose in life is working wonders. She's only about my size but has lots of riding experience so he's responding to her lighter aids and I had no trouble at all getting him to work nicely.

Buddy the neopolitan puppy is getting huge now! He's easily as big as Eddie and has tons of energy to burn off. Because you can't exercise him too much or it'll strain his joints at this age, Kim's doing a lot of obedience work to keep him occupied. As good as he is, being loved by Buddy is like being steamrollered by a small hippo!

Then off to choose and buy Kim's mum's birthday gifts. She loves her garden, so Kim got her a patio table set that weighed a ton and getting it in the jeep wasn't a whole lot of fun. I got her some Cana lilies that are huge and healthy and should bloom in the next couple of weeks in her sunny garden.
Then a longer trip to an aquatics specialist, because Kim's koi pond is not doing well, with a couple of the fish showing early signs of disease. Kim's been testing the water but now has to take some to the center for more detailed analysis. I busied myself watching the stugeons that were for sale, I love their prehistoric looks!

Then a visit to Kim's old boss with belated birthday cards and gifts, back to see to the dogs, and out for a lovely hack. Merlin's new rider came along so I rode Ben today, he was really excited to be out and inclined to be spooky and silly, but I kept him calm and focused so he went nicely instead of messing around and scaring himself. Merlin had been very loving to me so I was disapointed that he bit Zoe twice when she was dealing with him. She's very calm and quiet around the horses, so I hope Merlin will stop being naughty towards her and told him so when I turned him out.
Meanwhile, dinner was cooking in the slow cooker, so I stayed for supper before going to visit Kim's mum and wrestling her birthday surprises back out of the jeep and into her garden. All in all, a lovely day, but I'm pooped!

I love watching Mike work, he's calm but firm with the horses and they respond really well to his approach. He's the master farrier for this area and is just back from a trip to Africa, where he does welfare clinics for the horses, donkeys and mules.

Hey Tisha! The ankle is getting better all the time, it still feels a little unstable if I do too much, but Tuesday's ride was a lot of steep hills and I could bear my weight in the stirrup pretty well to help Ben out. (He's an old boy now, over 20 years old and not so fit as he was)
I'm trying to stick to a lesson at least once a week in preparation for my riding holiday and Kim's determined to help me be ready for it. Taking turns in riding the other horses did take me out of my comfort zone but I can't take Merlin on holiday with me, as much as I'd like to!

This week I managed to fit in double the horsey fun! Cathy got out of work early on Monday so we had a lovely afternoon with the crazy gang. Whilst we were poo-picking, there was a commotion, with all 5 ponies very excited and concerned about something they could see in the distance. While Nuts and Luna ran to Joey for reassurance, LouLou and Lola charged across the field to see off the percieved threat
