Hi,

as some of you will know i'm seriously looking into building up my corn collection and going into breeding but I doubt I will breed before 05 because I want to gather all the info I can and have a secure setup first, I know I can advertise through my local reptile shop so there will be homes for these snakes to go to but there are some questions I would like answered please.

1) With non-feeders (hatchlings and adults) how do you know it is deffinately time to force feed them or for how long do you try and coax them to eat?

2) How do you force feed them?

3)How do you deal with re-gurges?

4)How and When do you begin the brumation period

5)How can you tell when a female is ovulating

6)When eggs are being incubated how often do they need to be checked? (I read too much checking causes them to come out too early)

7) How do you candle the eggs?

8)When do you 'pop' the animal, can it be done within the first week? (The man at my reptile shop has offered to show me how to pop them)

9)When is the best time to start feeding hatchlings?

10) What are BIG signs of a snake being ill aside not eating/excreting/drinking?

I currently have 1male and femlae living in the same tank but should be seperated within the next 2/3weeks

Many of your questions are brilliantly answered in Kathy's Corn Snake Manual. She does a much better job of answering them than I could. :)
 
Well like in my other post, the general rule is wait 10 days after a regurge before attempting to feed again.

Big signs of snake being ill or just not healthy are:

Bad sheds

folds in the skin or you can see the ribs

Lethargy

Strange swellings anywhere in the body

Any strange blister/rash/or other artifact on the skin that shouldn't be there

Nasal discharge or any bubbles coming from the nostrils

Wheezing, rasping sounds when breathing

Constant sneezing

"stargazing" - serious problem which points to brain damage

And poop. - the single BIGGEST pointer that tells something's wrong. The poop should be composed of a chalky white urate part and a dark part. It should smell a certain way, any strong very foul smelling poo (assuming you only feed mice) points to a problem. Very runny poo, poo that looks like diahrea, poo with a lot of water in it, grey poo, any blood, and any sort of living multicellular organism (it's real freaky when you start to see your snake's poo slither around) is a sure sign something is wrong.

thanks, n lol all my animals seem to have brain damage but i'll watch for my snakes mental health carefully now:D
