1. I got a probe thermometer. I dont have any lighting, only a UTH. How hot is too hot for the glass over the UTH? Right now it is 98 degrees and probably growing...

The reptile guy said I wouldn't have to worry about them touching the glass and burning themselves, but my corn snake just burrowed near it for the first time and I am worried.

2. When do snakes like to sleep?

3. When he is completely burrowed under the bark, what is the best way to find him in order to take him out?

4. Do you guys place your hides/decor on top of the repti-bark (if you have it) or do you put the things on the glass and then put the bark in and around it?

1.
That's too hot. it won't burn them yet but you need something to regulate the UTH. A thermostat or retrostate sp?. But for now but paper towels or a tile over the UTH to disperse the heat a little.
2.
Mostly during the day.
3.
Just feel around for him
4.
On top of the bedding.

Thanks a lot. I'd like not to have to buy any other gizmo to control the heat, so would folding paper towels on the glass over the UTH be a permanent solution.

Yes the UTH is stuck to the glass

Sorry, but you really should buy another gizmo to control the heat.
The paper towel trick is just a temp until you solve the problem.
I'll do a search for a check and easy retrostat sp?

Mechanic: "dude your brakes are shot...they could go out any time"

You: "just throw some brake fluid in there...I'll be aight"

24 hours later: *crash bang boom*...you're dead!

You're right...no more crazy gizmos!

Please, for your snake's health, get something to control your UTH or he will burn himself and get severely injured. Get either a rheostat or a thermostat. It is absolutely necessary.

No, folding paper towels won't be a permanent solution. Running the temps too high can result in thermal burns to the snake, regurges, or neurological damage.

So If I got a thermostat, All it does is plug into the outlet, then my UTH plugs into the Thermostat, and then set the thermostat to 80 degrees, and somehow it knows when my UTH gets to hot?

I still am a little confused, I know I probably sound dumb to you guys...

So there are no permanent liners that can go on the glass?

What if I put some kind of reptile carpet thing on the glass first, then my repti-bark over that, and work it out so that only 80ish degrees makes it through to the lowest point my snake could get over the hot side..

they can still get under it. And they will. Your easiest bet is to buy a lamp dimmer to use as a rheostat. It's only 7-10 dollars, and it will save your snake from getting burned. Just search rheostat on the forum and you'll find how to make your own, or you can buy one premade for closer to 10.
