A golden opportunity

Dragonling

Doesn't do "casual"
In my correspondence with Joe Pierce (ecreipeoj on these forums), he made me an offer I couldn't refuse: 12 OOE hatchlings from two small clutches with their sire and another adult male sibling. While the two males are still with him until I can get another adult rack, the babies arrived yesterday and are settling in. We managed to get some quick snaps of all of them, though they're pretty much all just run of the mill normal babies. So here they are! They are all classic het caramel 50% het lava motley.

So there we have it! Oodles of normal babies. Not very exciting.

Oh, did I forget to mention...their sire and his brother are het golden?

That's right! Joe finally got two successful clutches from het golden x caramel pairings. The results were ALL normals, which means we have a new gene! Of course this will need to be confirmed by a second breeder, which is where I come in.

So my goals for this project are two-fold. First on my list is acquiring a caramel female to once and for all prove that golden is NOT allelic to caramel, preferably a loan since I think I need to limit my collection for now. Secondly, to grow up these babies and test first the females for het golden then later the males and hopefully produce some visuals in the next few years.

It's amazing that it's taken over a decade to just get this far, but I'm confident that goldens will soon start to appear in collections everywhere due to Joe's efforts in saving this line. I'm lucky to be a part of that!

Neat! I gotta say, I love your name theme. :) Fritter is my favorite.
I figured they're all het caramel, they needed sweet names. Fritter and Doughnut have the best head patterns by far. They'll have their first meal in a day or two. Hopefully most of them will eat without issues!

I offered boiled pinks last night for their first meal and had zero refusals by morning. I think these guys will be fairly easy to establish from here. Big kudos to those who'd sworn by the boil method...it definitely works.

Snapped a couple pics of Divinity yesterday since I knew she'd be feisty enough to sit mostly still and make bitey faces at the camera. Look how much their color has changed. :)

Decided to give Divinity another go as a test subject for our new bowl prop. I'm hoping it will look nice for 2017 hatchling photos, especially having a rounded bottom so they are more likely to stay centered.

Unfortunately she didn't stay very still for long, so I got out my favorite of the two clutches: Churro. He's my biggest boy, and looks very much like his het golden sire already.

I have to give credit where it's due...my SO is the one who takes the overwhelming majority of the photos and does most of the editing. He's got a great eye for it, and fortunately he has the income to support such an expensive hobby lol. Just about every time I buy a snake, he buys a new lens or flash or w/e lol! It's a wonderful boon to my breeding efforts, since good photography is good for marketing!
