A Rattle Snake?!

I've had my little babies for almost two weeks, at first they were co-habbing due to bad advice but yesterday i separated them. they both shed two days ago and i just fed them but,,,

the amel has always been a little skittish, but yesterday i handled her and she was fine, (even though i had to bathe what was left of her shed off) but today as soon as i took her hide off to get her out she started shaking her tail like a rattle snake and going into an 'S' shape.

I decided maybe she didnt want me to touch her today, so I didnt but... is it normal for corn snakes to exhibit this behaviour?

help =]

Perfectly normal. Just pick her up anyway. She might go so far as to strike at you, but you really can't feel it, although it is very startling.

I've had my lavender for almost a year now, and he still rattles at me from time to time.

Perfectly normal for a corn....It's just their way of saying "Hey, back off! I'm having a bad hair day!"

:)

My Yolanda girl, will rattle her tail, now and then. She is so funny when she does it. I think she thinks that she can take me on. NOT...... I realize that she does it, only when I startle her. Good luck on your little one and don't be afraid of her

hahaha my creamsicle must always be having a bad hair day!!!:eek:

Phew! I thought it was just me with my snow corn!

She is very skittish around the tank, and she loves to burrow a lot so it's not easy getting her! If she's in the hide though, she'll rattle, and has gone for me, however I didn't feel a bite, whether she missed, or it just doesn't hurt (maybe she'll pack more bite when she's fully grown!?!). She's fine when we handle her though, very much enjoying slithering under my shirt collar to warm up, or escape round the back of my neck! :spinner:

Have fun with your baby snakes, and don't fear them - I'm sure they sense it...

It similar to humans - some people always seem to have a bad day :)
One of my little ones, a pewter, is always rattling, striking and biting as soon as I dare to move in front of her (good thing: She's also eager to "kill & destroy" any f/t pinky in front of her). I heard she's from a line of "naughty" corns, so here we see that corns are (mostly) bred for color and not for kindness. *sigh*
(but she looks great :spinner:).

I think this rattling can also be seen in times of exitement, combined with a little anxiety: My male bloodred (he quite "grown up", from 2005), still rattles when he just grabbed his mouse, especially when he had a longer abstinence. I think he doesn't target me in special (I'm not in his feedig box ;) , he can't even see me), perhaps he says: "Be aware, world, I just got this fat mouse and I will eat it NOW, don't bother me!"

She'll probably just give up biting by the time she's a year old. It's mostly a baby thing.
