Hey, how do I overcome my fear of snakes? The thing is, I really want a Corn, but I'm fear strickin with the mere site of a snake. Uuuuuggh!!! The Pet Shop said they will look after it for me and I can just check in now and then to see how it's doing + they gave me a 25% discount, I must pay for the feedings though, that sucks!

If you want a great "get acquainted" snake, I'd suggest looking for someone selling an excess adult. They are much more laid back and less likely to be a hissing, striking, bundle of energy that is more commonly found in the average hatchling.

corns are not develish killers, (unless your a mouse hehe...) man eaters, or possesed assasins sent from the underworld. But they are pretty cute and make great pets!

I want to know...

if you are afraid of snakes, then why do you have a 4 foot yellow rat snake (you know...the one that struck at your mom's pomeranian)?

no offense (seriously, I don't mean to be mean but...) but "buying" a snake and letting the pet store keep it has to be the dumbest and funniest thing I've ever heard of.

You may as well sponser a reptile at the zoo, cause that's all you're doing is paying them to display an animal for you. They'll probably sell it out from under you anyway and just give you your money back, thats what I'd do.

Hey, while your at it I have a deed to this bridge in Arizona I need to sell....

Now I tell you what I used to be afraid of them too. But I had a husband who played with them in the wild...especially the poisonous ones...and also watched Steve Irwin the Crocidile Hunter and realizied that snakes are wonderful and extrordinary creatures and as long as they are handled well and treated with the upmost respect they are wonderful campanions. Before I bought my "Baby" The petstore let me hold it and it was love at first slither. You can get over your fears it just takes a little tender love and appreciation.

PS Take it out of the pet store you have no Idea how they treat it or feed it as I have come to find out. It would be better of in your home.

My mum was TERRIFIED of snakes and eventually hse touched my baby corn and it just feels like soft leather they dart about a bit and even if they hiss at you it's more talk than anything and their bites, squeze your finger and tell me how painful that is, not very lol with corns it's just a bit sticky though. I've only been bitten if I have the scent of mouse on me as I move them.

Rachel:)

Ps. apparently we're born with a fear of snakes amongst other things so if there are people like us lot who seem to have thrown that out the window I'm sure oyu cna tag along lol ;)

What's your reason for wanting a corn?

Is it out of curiosity and you want to know more about them? or do you just want to have a unique pet? It sounds real wierd that you're fear stricken by snakes, yet want one as a pet (sort of like an oxymoron you know?).

Well...I still haven't gotten an answer...

This thread doesn't coincide with the other you you posted about your 4 foot snake striking at your mom's pomeranian.

This just doesn't make any sense! You are afraid to get this other snake, but you already have a 4 foot snake??? I'm confused???

I'm with you on this one . . . I did a search of "Slitherin" postings and found it QUITE confusing . . .first the person has TWO snakes . . then one snake . . .now they are AFRAID of snakes?? I'd like some clarification as well . . .

For the Confused and Humorly Challenged

Hey there all

The I'm_afraid_of_snakes post, was a joke, something that I thought would have been clear. But now I realise that some people can't be otherwise than serious about everything. But congrats to those that hit the punchline rite on the head. Congrats 13 mur 6 , blito and Homer.

So the truth stands like this: I have a beautiful Okeetee Corn Snake and a Yellow Ratsnake. Homer you made me laugh and I can see you had a good laugh yourself, your Rodent Anatomy knowledge may fall short a bit but there is nothiing wrong with your sense of the ridiculous!

Slitherin, I must aplogize before hand if I am about to offend you in any way, but please keep these "jokes" to yourself, as it causes unnecessary concern for forum members like me who may not share the same humor you may have. It's quite unnerving and disgruntling to attempt to help someone who seems for face value to come up with something that seems like an honest to goodness question only to be slapped in the face.

This forum was put together by our gracious host Rich Z., free of charge mind you, so that members could help one another and share information on the husbandry of these animals, not to befuddle each other with "jokes" (however, a good joke is welcome once in a while, though it doesn't belong in this particular section of the forums).
