A suitable lid for tank..............

i use a 30"*12" tank to house my snake, and the other day the bugger escaped. 3 days she was on the loose but i found her (in my back garden!!) phew. the lid i use is the one it came with which is meant for use with fish, but i put a strip of wood at each edge and i thought this would be enough, but evidently not. i have scoured t'internet but cannot find any suitable lid, bar a clearseal metal frame with meshing which i could not use due to lighting requirements. anyone got any good ideas?? i will eventually buy a propper viv, but that will be in a few months or so. :uhoh:

What sort of lighting do you use, and where are you located (i'm in the Uk and have a coupl of sugestions if your not usind fluresant light's), something like this which i have used previously for an ols fish tank is great http://www.livefoods.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=208 and is the sort of thing i would recomend.

I use a strip light, but will change lighting to bulb when I buy one of those lids. I dont really want to make anything myself as I arent the best DIYer (heavy-handed hit it with a hammer type of guy). Thanks for the advice

This is exactly how I made my lid. It looks good and I just use nylon straps (like that on a backpack) to hold it in place. Wrap them around the sides of the tank and pull to fasten.

All I needed was a drill (to make holes to screw the wood together - place mesh inbetween) and some small nuts and bolts to hold it all together. Works great!

Spirit, I wish I was that handy and did it myself. I paid a reptile shop $30 to make me one which was just them using one of those screen kits from a home-depot-like store (using the metal frame cut to size and screen). It fits perfect but I felt like such a dope not being able to do it myself!
