Aboreal Vivariums

Shade

Attack Iguana
I'm about to get started bulding a 3' tall aboreal terrarium for my rat snake and my corn (Not cohabitating, there's a divider in the middle) and I was wondering, if given all this space, will the cornsnake even bother making use of the height and climbing vines, etc. that I put in the tank? Or will it just sit on the ground the whole time?

Thanks,
Jake

they'll occationally climb (they can actually climb up the bark of trees) but i wouldn't suspect it to do so all the time

i would agree with the nothing, keeping in mind that it will probably be hiding most of the time anyway :grin01:

Not necessarily true... some snakes climb and some don't. Some hide and others are quite comfortable being out in the open. My guy often watches me with his head laying on his log :)

My daughter's first snake, Lady G... loved her little plant that I found for her (it's real).

My adult corn is out all the time when we are home. She comes out as soon as she sees/feels us, or however she tells. I recently got her a big thick branch, and she spends all her time laid out on it, or resting with her chin on it- like in my avatar- she always has to have a pillow!

All my babies climb vines a _lot_.

When I open her viv to get her out, if I don't reach in to let her climb up my arm, she goes for the wall behind the viv which has a series of picture frames hanging there. She'll go right up the frames like a ladder.

I think it depends how theyre brought up from a hatchling.
I started mine with loads of branches and i see him climbing at least twice a day. On the other hand my brothers snake started out in a flat enclosure with 2 hides, and he never climbs now.

Check this out.Heres come ideas

My two would be the exception if that is the rule, Derek. Lady G loved to climb into her "tree." Kieran on the other hand never showed any interest in climbing, not even to the lip of his tank. Their tanks were identical... like ost children, you couldn't buy for one and not the other :)
