Adopted snake agoraphobic: Need RTB Suggestions

I adopted a ten year old Brazillian Red Tailed Boa about six months ago. From what I know of her previous life, she was kept in her cage pretty much exclusively and wasn't taken out too much. She can be difficult to handle because she's 7ft, 16lb (probably a reason she wasn't taken out too much) and because she absolutely hates when I handle her. I try to take her out often to get her used to me and being able to move, but she cannot stand me coming near her. If I let her be and let her crawl around on her own she begins to relax, but often works herself into spaces that make it difficult to put her back. Is there anything I can do to handle her without stressing her out so much?
Thank you!
