We've just lost power on the what is suppose to be the coldest night of the year so far. Unfortunately, both snakes were fed last night. I'm not so concern about Kieran, but I am concern about the new little girl. Will she be okay or would you put her like in a pocket and keep her close to share your body heat??

Good question.

We haven't lost power yet, but I am concerned about it. Everything's frozen outside, and this 'blizzard' is still coming hard.

That's actually not too bad of an idea. You could put her in a tupperware container, and then surround the container with candles. That way she's assured at least some temporary heat.

Hey Wee, you are experiancing the same thing as me. Gotta love Missouri weather eh? We lost power for a little while and I bought heat packs just for this occasion. I am all set for at least a 36 hour outtage.
.
How much sleet/snow you get out there? We have 2 inches of ice below 4 inches of sleet. Now we are supposed to get 8-10 inches out here, but we will see..

Actually here in little Mascoutah, IL, we've only had rain, a great deal more than Hazelwood there in Missouri, but the temperature is dropping, so the ice is going to be ugly. I don't have any of those handwarmers and I'm not sure the roads are safe to be on to go the 10 or 12 miles to a local Wal-Mart.

I'm not sure how much a blanket would help.... she isn't big enough to generate a lot of heat and everyone knows how cold a bed is to crawl into. Perhaps put her in a container and put it under the blanket with me?

I'm definitely going to stock up on the warmers :(

I think the container in the bed with you is a good idea, in case of emergency. or, do you still have hot water left where you could fill the tub and warm up the bathroom?

I recommend moving to Florida- then you only have to worry about losing power for four days at a time when there's a hurricane- and it's usually in summer.

Yeah my grandmother moved from Missouri to Florida and says she will never return.

I do like the idea of putting her in the bathroom and get the bathtub full of nice hot water to warm it up.

And the snake in the bed with you, that would be something to see....tons of tubs spread out evenly under the covers, LOL. Good picture for Kathy Loves next book

LOL

LOL Sorry, much, much too humid for me. I need to move back West again. I much prefer the heat to the cold .... sigh....

Electric is back on, hopefully it will stay on. It came back on and the alarm on the thermostat let me know it was below normal.

I'm definitely going out tomorrow and buy some of those packs... once they get the snow off the roads. I think we are only suppose to get 3-5 inches... but it'll be on top of a great deal of ice. Definitely NOT going into work for that silly training. Went in special today for it and they never got around to us... took us almost three hours to get home this evening.

Hopefully you dont get what we are getting out here! This is my view as I look out my bedroom window.

Oh we'll be getting it soon enough.. unless it stalls at the river. We don't have the snow yet... just lots of rain sitting on the ground slowing freezing..which reminds me I need to go get a couple of jugs of water out of the car before it freezes.

:) Oh you Americans... I live in Canada. It snowed around 1.5 feet yesterday. and everything went as normal. driving, schools, work. and soon comes the -35 temperatures. It really screws up my tank heat settings.

The problem is down here folks don't remember how to drive in the stuff from one year to the next and they act like idiots. So the smart thing to do is stay home for the next day or two and let them figure it out again.

I miss the heat personally :)

We have four blackouts so far, the longest being the first one that lasted an hour. Hopefully they are done, although the rain is still falling, which means ice is still going to be forming on the electric lines.... I've got my fingers crossed. The thermostats have both tanks back up to normal.

Question... with the warming packs... do you put them in the tank with the snakes, underneath the tank... put the snake in a container and put them underneath the container?

I would put them inside a sock, then put them into the tank with the snake. Tie a knot in the sock so that the snake can't get inside, and put the thermometer probe right on it. If it gets too warm, you may need to put another sock around it. If it isn't getting warm enough, put a hide over it to help contain the heat.

I've never had to use them, but this is my plan, just in case..

the little thingies get Really WARM! like 130*F I put the snakes in there feeding containers with a water sish and hid box, i put the contaier on top of a bath towel which have the heateres under them, that way i can use more then one heater per snake( i do buy the 4x6 inches ones tho) it is like my emergancy drill.
