Ok as stated in my intro post I am new and just got Ozzy(Blizzard) yesterday.
When I first put him in the tank he did a full area search and was moving around like crazy.I made sure to keep my kids away from him so he wouldnt be overwhelmed in his new home. After watching the temp in the tank and being happy with the setup I went to bed.About 2:30 am I got up for a drink and when I returned Ozzy was gone.I knew there was no way he could have gotten out so I figured he buried himself.I looked under(glass tank) and saw him curled up so I decided to leave him be as hes probably scared or sleeping.
Its now 10:30 am and hes still buried and seems like he didnt move much since.
I want to check to make sure hes ok but dont want to bother him if he is.
Should I clear some cypress bedding to make sure hes ok or leave him alone?
I tried a search but didnt find a revilent topic yet......so thanks in advance.

That's totally normal. new corns are always stressed after shipping and being put in a new environment, I wouldn't worry about him or stress him more by digging him out as long as he can't get out. Give him a week or so to get acclimated .

Is he on top of the heat pad(if you have a heatpad)? What is temp? Was viv clean? What was it cleaned with?

you might gently bumb the tank or lightly touch him to make sure there is still movement.........other than that, they like to hide and nighttime is when they are more active. just give him 3-5 days to settle in and everything should be o.k.............good luck and post some pics when you get a chance.

Well he's on the cool side.......the heating pad is showing 86.2 right now and the cool side is 78.6
Should I make it hotter or colder for him?

I would love to post some pics I have my camera in my hand but he won't come out!!....lol
ill go post some of my tank with her 100% hidden though!......brb

86.2 is ok if thats the glass temp over the UTH. With on/off type thermostats my temps range from 81-85 or so on the hot side over the UTH.

Get used to not seeing him much corns like to hide all the time, especially young ones.

Ok i messed with the temps and got bot side perfect.
Im gonna leave him be until tonight....if there is still no movement ill have to make sure hes ok.
Heres some pics...The one of him is from the breeder as hes being camera shy for me right now.

NIce tank, but I find it helpful to cover three sides with paper (look in the painting dept of Home Depot) so they aren't overwhelmed with all the outside activity. I also get cheap plants from WalMart and a corkbark log to encourage them to come above the substrate. They will move around more if they feel there is cover for them and they aren't so exposed! Besides, it looks nice!
Here's one of my tanks:

I'd say you need a few more hides :) You should have at least one on each side. A bit of cork bark does nicely :)

I second that. Hatchlings need lots of hides to feel safe.

Don't worry about not seeing your snake out much. As others have mentioned a few more hides are needed in your set up. It's good that you have a thick substrait though. Your snake is burrowing because that's where he feels the safest.
Hatchlings that I put in 10gal aquariums take awhile to get used to and comfortable with the space. Hatchlings that I've put in small tubs are usually out exploring within the first couple days. In my experience at least.
Remember to leave him alone for a few days with NO disturbances. This will help your snake feel more safe. Hopefully you'll see him out exploring soon. If you don't see him exploring though it doesn't mean he's not moving around. He could be moving around underneath the substrait.

You definitely need a few more hides in there. I use toilet tissue rolls for my hatchlings. They are just the right size, and I can toss them when they get soiled since there is a steady supply of them.

Ok I just went to the pet store and got some plants.
Ill use the toilet paper rolls as suggested.
Thanks so much.......Ill post pics when Im done.

Yeah, Casper is doing the same thing, he's staying hidden but I disturbed him a few times to change his hides or move the thermometer but now I'm good, everything is done and now he's staying hidden, I'll give him like 2 days then I'll feed him and then leave him alone for another week. I'll post pictures as soon as my brother lends me the camera.

I had to laugh a little when I read your post. One of the two babies I got fom Mark promptly buried himself beneath the aspen, eschewing the two hides in the tank. However, as soon as the sun went down he came out to prowl around. He still is a little leary of me, so I'm going to give him some time to settle in. His traveling companion shows no fear but has spent his daylight hours curled up under the warm hide. I guess we're just going have to get use to their schedule before we get to spend any social time. lol

Ok, he lent me his camera and heres my viv, and a pic of Casper trying to hide. I made the background using cardboard wrapped in a black shopping bag, I actually like the way it looks though. I need to make 2 more for the sides. The second pic has the plush snake my girlfriend bought me from California before she even knew I got the snake. She said she hoped that if she bought me the fake one I wouldnt need a real one but by the time she came back, she saw the surprise sitting on my dresser lol. She was offish at first but is starting to fall in love with him as I continue to educate her about corns... now she's partly fascinated but she wont be getting one any time soon lol. The third one is of Casper trying to hide behind the new toy I bought him because I switched his hide to a new and better one but he hasnt discovered it yet. Now he's all set an I could leave him alone for a few days till I have to feed him.

lol it seems this website is becoming my main source for information and if I dont see info on what my snake is doing right off the bat I panic a little.
Since im 100% new to having a snake I just need to take it slow.
