Al Gore...living green...yeah right.

Yeah, they're hypocrites. Can't argue with that. But I view it sort of like the Doctor telling you smoking is bad as he lights up a cigarette. Just because he's a hypocrite doesn't make his message any less true or valid.

You sir are a trouble maker. Al worked hard for his money as a productive citizen. When you are as important as he is it's ok to ignore the planet and live it up a little.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Six fireplaces in southern California. Hahahah.

Oh my Mr. Gore hypocrisy flows heavy within your veins. Maybe he used the money he made from inventing the internet to buy it?

I also read that again and wondered, who needs 9 bathrooms? Even after a night of heavy drinking the most I could personally need is 2. What's the point of 9?

I actually don't see anything wrong with it. He won't be needing to burn wood on those fireplaces anyway. :)

He made a movie, gave many speeches, and so on, lots of people ate it up and made him lots of money, so now he gets to enjoy the fruits of his "labor". Nothing different then Steve Jobs and his Apple empire.

I'm going to live my life how I want, I'm not going to let anyone like Gore who says I should completely change my lifestyle bother me. I enjoy my healthy use of fossil fuels to the fullest. I recycle, but its because it makes me a little pocket change. I'm looking into using alternative fuels, but its because gas is expensive and so is electricity. If I'm going "green" its going to benefit me directly, lots of people disagree with this train of thought but if you want the masses to do the same, you have to work on their level and budget.

Todd, do you mean the $1.5 million of the prize itself, or the cumulative sum for all speaking engagements in the three years since he was awarded the "prize"?

Both. Jokingly about about the prize itself because it sounded better as a punch line but technically I think he donated it. But the cumulative effect of winning sure allowed him to purchase the mansion and continue to consume at ten times the rate of most Americans. :)

Yeah, he did donate it. I was being sarcastic, but I'm sure you knew that.

But you know, the weird thing to me is this : IMHO, the Los Angeles area is the last place I would want to put down roots. Well, maybe the New York City area, too.
If I had the money, and the desire to live in a 'villa'/mansion, the beautiful beautiful country of Tennessee would be a thrill in which to settle down. My mom and stepdad lived in Nashville for a while, and boy was it a nice, fun, pretty area.

I hear ya. I have been to California many times. There are some beautiful areas out there but I have no desire at all to live there. Too expensive and the culture is 180 from me.

The Nobel Peace Prize is a joke. It is not worth working towards anymore. To me its along the same lines as a Bronze Star in the Air force. Once they started giving it out to people who sat on their butts and did nothing their whole deployment, It became worthless.

Global warming is a joke, Al Gore got all this money by taking advantage of people who trusted him. Carbon Credits! Please, what kind of pyramid scheme was that.

Gore is no better than someone selling "miracle" drugs in a booth at the fair.

Agreed.

If I was going to pick my place to settle LA would not even be on the radar. I'd like somewhere far out from big cities where I can play my Elvis albums really loud while sipping tea on the front porch. However, I would like to be within a 2-3 hour drive to major town for shopping and socializing.

Perhaps that's why he chose CA instead of TN. He identifies better with people out here. ;)
Which part of his character does he identify with California? The hypocritical part, the out of control spending part, the inability to manage a reasonable budget part? Or did he identify with the LA smog being easier to hide his exorbitant use natural resources and the readily available migrant worker force to manicure the mansion grounds? :grin01:;)

Truthfully, I think a lot of the extremely wealthy environmentalists are either racists or classists. That is "'I've got mine but you poor people have to live in mud huts and die young to save the planet!" It often comes across as they think all the rest of us peons should cut OUR carbon footprints but they are so important they can continue as they have been.

The largest Carbon Footprint happened not too long ago... When the Iceland Volcano erupted, releasing more carbon dioxide and other chemicals into the air than I could ever think of in my entire life... even if I were to burn every tire I see from now until I die...
