albino jungle corn morph?

ok I really know nothing about genetics and when I got my snake (albino jungle corn) it was definitely another language to me when the breeder told me its genetics, so I don't at all remember what she said. I believe she said californian king mixed with some corn, I really couldn't be able to remember. It's just been bothering me about his genetics, I would really like to know since I am learning more and more about the different morphs all the time on this site. If pictures are needed I will post a few. All I know is he has red eyes his body is a pale pink color with yellow and like neon orange spots. Oh and his underside has the pale pink but lots of orange in it and some yellow. I hope that helps. Thanks :D

Yes, it would be a cross between a corn snake and a California king snake. I don't know a lot about hybrids, but I would imagine that the Cali had to be an albino or the corn had to be Amel? Or at least have those genes in them somewhere. I don't know about kings, but corns can have several different hidden genes, or hets, so your baby's genetic makeup has the potential to be anything! Can you contact the breeder and ask about the parents? That could certainly help. :} Posting pictures would also be good!

I'm pretty sure it would be a second generation jungle to get the albino, because I don't think amel in corns and albino in cali kings are compatible with each other. So it has the albino from the cali and the amel from the corn working together in one snake.

And yes, pictures would be nice. We like pictures here!

Thanks, Robbie! I was just kind of grabbing something out of the air! x] I tried to find stuff via Google, but nada came up.

There are 2 different albino genes floating around in Cal kings. One of the albino cal king genes is compatible with amel in corns. So it is possible that your snake is the f1 from a albino cal king crossed to a corn.

But then again it is also possible that it is an f2 or beyond and it is just carrying the corn snake amel gene, or the one of the Cal king albino genes.

Has any one looked in to the albino cal king gene that is compatible with amel in corns. I know they are at the same locus but are they actually the same gene or are they 2 different genes at the same locus?

ok things are starting to make sense more. thank you everyone, I really appreciate everyones help. I did have a card the breeder gave me, though it has been like 2 years and I'm really not sure where I put it, but if I do find the card I will contact them. Hopefully they will remember me.

I have some pictures I took just now. Sorry the lighting is bad, I am not the greatest at taking pictures, I NEVER seem to get the lighting right but these are the best of the bunch I took just now.

This would require sequencing the DNA molecule in the king's albino mutant gene and the corn's amelanistic mutant gene. As far as I know, nobody has done this.

haha ok thank you :D:D:D I guess he will be somewhat of a mystry then until I contact the breeder, if I even find the card or if they even remember him :uhoh:

The regular albino gene in cal kings is compatable with the amel gene in corns - amel X abino cal king produces amelanistic jungle corns. The 'lavender' albino gene in cal kings is not compatable with the amel gene in corns - don't know that it has been tested against any other corn genes but it appears to be a hypomelanistic variant rather than a true amelanistic morph.

That is a nice amel jungle corn - it most likely came from jungle X jungle breeding. There aren't that many people producing them from corn X cal king directly when there are so many jungles around that breed with less risk than putting a corn directly to a cal king. The amel versions are common, some people produce a lot of other variants based on cornsnake morph genes that have been incorporated into the jungle lines over time.

Congrats on a beautiful new addition,

mary v.

I don't know if your planing on breeding him/her but if you are you could test it out for your self. If you Breed your snake to an amel corn and all the babies are amel you know that the snake is amel or carrying the albino cal king gene that is compatible with amel. If that breeding dose not produce any amels then you know it is carrying the cal king albino gene that is not compatible with amel.

Thanks for the reply. I guess I did not choose my words correctly. I was actually wondering if any one had tested to see if there were any visual differences in phenotype of jungles that have only the amel compatible cal king gene compaired to the jungles that are only carrying the amel corn gene. I think there might be slight differences that would barely be noticeable if they are different genes but that is just speculation.

I was really just wondering if any one had taken the time to try and see if there is any visual difference between them but I can see how my first post might make is seem like I wanted to know if they are the exact same gene.

YYess!!! I found the card I can't believe i found something from like two years ago I thought I threw it out. Wow im so excited I just sent them an email....HOPEFULLY they can remember the genetics, even though I did buy him like 2 years ago but, I will keep my fingers crossed.

ha I didn't see there was a second page.

vanderkm- Thanks! I never knew any of that. Lately I've been learning something new from this site everytime I go on it. What you said makes perfect sense and does bring me to a better understanding of him :)

Billybobob- I actually was wondering if I were to breed him if it could lead me to any idea what his genetic are. I guess you answered that for me, also thanks!

ok the email isnt working, says the address isn't right...but I do have the breeders name so I'm just going to put it out there just in case ANYONE knows anything bout them, hope this is allowed on the site. ok so it says my little boys from Rick Krumrine Reptiles, hopefully maybe someone will know who I am talking about.

Did a google search:

Rick Krumrine Reptiles - Quality captive bred reptiles, Rick and Miriam Krumrine, Biglerville, PA, 717-677-7237, [email protected]

Don't know if the info is current.

yea i have that all on the card but for some reason his email isnt working, thank you though. Maybe it is just my internet service, it's a real pain in the butt. I will try emailing again later.

ya like other people have mentioned the regular albino in cal kings is compatible with corns. What isn't really known though and I don't see done alot is the regular albino in nelson's milk snakes is compatible with corns and should be compatible with the regular albino in cal kings too.
