I started getting stuff set up for the arrival of snakes. I decided to go with plastic tubs since they're MUCH cheaper then 10g tanks and we're going to be building custom display viv's in the next few months.

The tubs are set up with their UTH's/thermostat and thermometer. Paper towels as substrate and some fake plants. Will add hides and water dishes in the next week sometime.

Now the fun part of getting the thermostat set where I want it.

Hi, welcome to the forum.

It sounds like you have planned this out.

I can't wait to see pics of your viv and your snake when you get it.

Thanks :)

I made some REALLY expensive mistakes with iguana's a number of years ago by listening to the pet store. Now anytime I'm getting something new I research it extensively BEFORE getting the critter. Saves a lot of money and heartache doing it the right way first.

Temps are holding steady now at about 71 on the cool side and 82-83 on the warm. I need to figure out what to do with the wire for the thermometer. Its WAY too long and its going to be a prime pooping spot (I know Murphy, and he has it in for me). I'm less concerned about the thermostat's probe since its a bigger wire and all sealed plus less length all coiled up.

Snakes will be coming on the 17th. I'll try to get pics up that weekend if possible. Its a pretty crazy weekend with about 3 major things crammed into it. Right now I'm planning on a bloodred and some sort of light grey (probably phantom, possibly a lavender if I can find one I don't think will turn pink). Of course its all going to depend on the selection at the WCCB's show. If I can't find one or the other that I think will grow up nicely then I'll just punt.

I think I'm getting excited...Almost time to start the countdown. :dancer:

I would be excited also. The 17th is not far off.

You can't go wrong with a bloodred. If you are looking for a gray scale corn, think about getting a charcoal.

Then, if there are any breeding plans in your future, you could produce some nice pewters down the line. Or just get a pewter :p

I am looking forward to pics no matter what you choose.

Yep...only 10 days to go :)

Possible breeding plans. I still haven't decided yet. I have a friend who just got 3 snakes from Don S. Two of which are males, a amel blood and a pewter. So my blood will definitely be female.

I like the charcoals but I'm looking for something lighter. I've seen pictures of lavenders that are exactly what I'm looking for, but so many are also pink. I'll probably just look around and see what I can find that's a nice light grey then decide.

Shannon

If you're looking for light grey, maybe ghost is your best bet. As I understand the goals of the lavender morph, most people want to have a pink wash.

I've looked at ghosts, but I've seen lots of pics of them getting a pink/red wash and some get really yellow. Pretty much all of the pics I've seen of the phantoms though are pretty close to what I'm looking for, so that's what I'm sort of leaning towards. We shall see what I actually come home with.

...9 days :dancer::dancer::dancer::dancer: (conga line)

Wow just my luck you are interested in stuff I won't have at WCCBE...You may find a lavender there, the selection of corns at the last portland show was ok but not spectacular. I'll have motley and striped ghosts but they do get some yellow on them, I will also have some anery motleys, lots of hypos and normals (possible het cinders!), a pair of crimsons from serpenco, and one male charcoal I got from Carol Huddleston. I do have one adult proven pair of anery motleys I am thinking of selling. Well let me know if any of these might interest you, I have pics of most of them :)

I think that's the way it always works out. I would run into the same thing when I was raising birds. 3 shows in a row, at least a dozen green female lovebirds. I finally got my male DNA sexed was planning on getting a green hen. Not a single one to be found. Turned out ok though with a nice surprise in the nestbox.

I'll definitely check out the ghost motleys. Are any of them on the lighter side of the spectrum? I've seen some pretty dark ghosts. I'm more concerned about the pink/red wash then yellow.

See you in 8 days :)

Shannon

5 1/2 days until snakies :) I think even my hubby is getting a little excited. Not as much as me, but it counts.

Shannon

These are the 2 ghost motleys I have, it is a 1.1 pair ...the male is in the blue though (second 2 pics.) But I can't guarantee they won't get more pastelly, especially the male lol. Well hopefully he goes to the show all fresh shed and pretty :) They are both by a striped ghost dad out of 2 different motley moms so technically they are motley het stripes.

They're adorable :) I'm not really looking for a pair right now since I'm still not sure I'm going to breed corn snakes. I'm assuming that you don't want to split them? See you Saturday.

Shannon

We'll see ;) I have the 1 female ghost mot and 1 female anery mot, but Murphy gave me a lot of males in those clutches too. I'd hate to sell the 2 females and come back with all the males but it's better than coming back with all the snakes, it's a 2 day show so I might be more willing to wheel and deal on Sunday lol.
