Amputated tail

pgr8dnlvr

An obsolete oldie...

I'm soooooo upset... Today I amputated a big portion of my baby bloodreds tail :( She was nearly impossible to get into her tupperware, as she was dashing about everywhere... I finally got the lid down and then I noticed it, her tail was in there..

She is very very young, and tiny, still on single pinks. It didn't bleed at all and she wasn't even panicking or wiggling in pain, it was immediately chopped. I think it was about a cm that got removed so at least it was well down from her vent :(

She was due to eat and since she didn't seem upset at all, about 12 hours after the incident I fed her. She voraciosly ate her pink. I guess that is good but I feel like a horrible piece of crap for not being carefull enough with her beautiful tail :(

sorry you feel bad, but it was an accident, it's not like you're an evil tail-docking regular. I'm sure she'll recover well in your care. I think I've seen a product called neosporin recommended for wounds (without pain relief), just keep her really clean and on paper towels until she heals up. I've got a one-eyed gerbil (from birth) and had a one-legged canary (cat-related incident) they don't care if they don't look perfect.

I'm so sorry for your accident.
My garter snake had some shed left on the end of his tail. I went to pull it off (not knowing to use warm water on a papertowel at that time) and off came the tip of his tail. I felt so bad! Accidents happen though, so don't beat yourself up, just take it as a lesson learned.
A dab of neosporin is a good idea. She should be fine. You're so lucky to have a bloodred! They are on my wishlist.
