So...since the lil guy still hasn't eaten (for those who remember my last post on the issue)...i figured I'd try giving him a live one to chew on.

Surprise. 3 hours later, the pinkies still kickin, and the snake just looks disinterested.

WTF is going on here?

Snakes sometimes become suicidal for no apparent reason.

Are you feeding in a smaller container? I'd leave it in overnight and see if that helps. You might also take it out and brain it--that might also help.

If that doesn't work, you might have to try scenting with a lizard or some chicken broth.

I'm assuming you've double checked your temps and everything? Might try getting them to around 83-85 and see if that helps.

Beyond that, I dunno.

Man don't tell me that... :(

I don't wanna the lil worm to die on me. I'd feel bad.

**** happens. As bad as it sucks, we all lose snakes. It might not happen, but just be prepared that some snakes just are not intended to make it.

Natural selection at its best. It sucks but what can you do :shrugs: As Joe suggested, leaving him in a very small container (like a deli cup) overnight with nothing but the pinkie in there with him may help alot. Sometimes we need to force them to concentrate really hard on JUST the pinkie.

That's no good Torch :( Hopefully he will eat soon.

Have you been offering EVERY day? If so, you might want to cut back and maybe wait a good 3-5 days before offering again. You might try braining it like Joe said. Also, I have had good luck if I put them in a small container and then cover the container with a blanket and then leaving it for a few hours. Sometimes all they need is a little privacy. :shrugs: We're all pullin for ya! Keep us updated

He was eating fine, then he shed and stopped.

ive been waiting a coupe days to a week between tryin to feed him, and it still doesnt help.

I left him in with one mouse allll last night. Nada.

And since theyre still alive I put him in there with both of em this evening...nada. I was hoping theyd piss him off crawling around and he'd just hit em.

BTW--are yall tellin me to poke a hole in the top of the pink's heads while theyre still alive or is that a f/t thing?

depends on how squirmy you are. You can do either. Some may protest and push an animal rights thing, but in my opinion it will be used for food anyways. If you brain the pink, and he still will not eat, then you can always freeze it and use again.

*GASP* Catherine! Don't you know that mice are people too! I can't believe you would suggest such a thing! LOL

Try also not to handle the pinky with your bare hands either...keep your scent off of it :D

I know I'm horrible aren't I? Hey whatever it takes to get my babies to eat. You should have heard my fiance when I fed som stubborn hatchlings hamster pinks. I got bombarded for that for about a month.

I would try lizard scent if all else fails. You can also put a few of their guts on the head. It really tempted my amel before shed to eat. I feed f/t though. No problem with gutting a dead one.

LOL. I figured out the problem. MY snake likes his frozen pinkie boiled.

When I first started feeding him, I accidentally microwaved the water, and stuck a ziplocked pinkie in it...

Well, I left it too long (they smell like chicken, btw..) but figured I'd try it anyhow since it was definately thawed.

He ate it. heh.

So apparently the last couple pinkies didnt smell like that one did...cuz I did it again on a hunch, and hes swallowing as we speak.

If it stays down, I'll be happy.

Sometimes they just get so programmed that they will only eat one thing, prepared one way. I'm glad you found out what works! I have several snakes that actually refuse live food. LOL, they look at it like... "eeewww, it's moving!".

Actually....I'm pretty sure it was cooked. it wasnt pink anymore.

Either way. He ate it, it stayed down...and he didnt eat the live ones...how the hell can I argue?

Well, if it ISN'T healthy for the snake, then I think it would be wise to NOT feed it to him. Even if he eats it. This is a situation where parental wisdom overrides the wisdom of the 'child'. If your baby stops drinking milk in the bottle, but you found that she WILL drink antifreeze...do you keep feeding the antifreeze to her because, hey, I can't get her to drink anything else?

Just a thought, not harping on you :)

I have yet to read anywhere here where it states that a slightly overthawed pinky is bad for the snake.
