SO my friend's cat caught this snake...she has the end of her tail bitten off and a few scrapes and lacerations....but seems to be doing well otherwise....it's weird...i've never seen one before and i find 2 within a few weeks....

The first is a pic of her...the second is the one I found a week or two ago...he has a chunk of dirt on his face after eating a big juicy worm

Thanks! She is still in my care....and her wounds are healing nicely. I like how active she is....so I will prbably set up a nice naturalistic viv for her and probably keep her.

What a pretty snake! I just love garters. We had them in abundance in our yard as kids. Wish we still did. Glad you were able to get her all healed up, s/he's a beauty!

I didn't know garters ate worms! That's so neat (and cheaper than mice). Hey, do you think my corns would go for that? Lol ^_^

That little guy will actually eat just about anything....got him to eat 2 brianed pinkies yesterday that my hatchlings refused...

I love garters! They are always out and are so inquisitive and comical. When we make any movements in the living room where they are....there are two little garter heads poking up watching us!

You can soak her in a mixture of 25% betadine; 25% hydrogen peroxide; 50% water to help keep any wounds clean. It worked wonders for a Cal king I found after being dropped by an owl or something. He had open and healing wounds all over his belly and back and several broken ribs, as well as a completely blind right eye from horrible sheds. All of his lacerations healed up beautifully in about a month with 2 sheds and many good soakings, and most of the old eye caps came off of the right eye, though it still looked as though he had cataracts and couldn't see. Good food and a clean environment is better than anything else for an injured snake.

She's very pretty. I hope she takes to captivity and heals well for you!

Thanks for the advice tyflier...I'm not sure how I missed this post....

I'm saving that soak formula....somehow I've become the person to call for injured snakes lately. lol.
