Hello all,

I'm rather new to corn snakes, so after being fascinated by my friend's almost year old normal corn snake I decided to research them on my own and ended up buying an amel from HomeGrownHerps.

A little bit about me, I'm 20 and going to college in Iowa. My baby is named Samson, he's about 3 months old now. This is a picture of him about a month ago, he's definitely getting bigger by the feeding! He's going into his first shed with me now and I'm sure I'll continue to be nervous until he does shed.

Just thought I'd say hi, and thanks for all the invaluable information I've gleaned from this site. =)

Oh and by the way my name is Sarah, for those who find my id hard to pronounce. It's Japanese, and I'm too lazy to find a new id after years of using this one. lol

Will you be taking her with you to college?

I'm sure you know this already but if Samson is going into shed she's going to need her viv to be a bit more humid than usual. This can easily be accomplished by adding a water dish over the UTH (if you have one. They're much touted over heat or ceramic lamps) or adding strips of bunched up moist paper towel to one of her hides. Or in a small plastic container.

Yep! It was supposed to mean demon cat, but I figured out it means something more like smelly cat. XD

Yeah I'll be taking Samson to college with me. I've been spraying a paper towel with water and leaving it on the warm side. He's in a kinda small container right now, I'll be getting a 10 gallon vivarium within the next week and then I can fit more stuff in it.

Right now, it's a little crowded with a paper towel, TP roll, and small water bowl.

I'll try to find my camera once he's done shedding and take some newer pictures. Thanks for the welcome, all.
 
Well let us know if Samson has any troubles with his shed. Hopefully he won't, but there is literally a metric butt-ton of people who know how to deal with a shoddy shed!

So I decided to find my camera and take a few more pictures, and Samson decides he's going to poo on me. At least I know what it looks like when he needs to poo now! lol

My first corn was an amel I got as a yearling, he is 13 years old now!

Oh, and welcome to the addiction too!
 
Welcome, welcome! I just got a little amel too and I am infatuated with her. I did my first feeding last night and it was awesome!
 
Welcome, what a beautiful snake! So what does she look like when she's going to poo? I figure, it might come in handy for me to know as well!
 
haha poo.. gotta love it. i had that problem with my first guy. um basically i would look at him through the light since he was amel, i could see if there was any poo close to his vent. and if there was poo close id pay attention while handling him, and look at his tail, and if you see his vent start bulging and his tail go up.. well he's gonna poo. i had this down to a science, but now it doesnt happen any more. lol

hope that makes sense
 
oh and they usually poo 2 to at the most i think 5 days after theyve eaten so if you handle them in that time period be a little careful.
 
I'll post another picture where you can really see that his vent is pushed out. Even though the rest of the picture is blurry, you can definitely tell that his vent is pushed out further than the rest of his tail.

I fed him on Sunday, so I sort of assumed he'd pooed already--nope. Waited until I held him. lol

Haha at least my picture will help some other new corn snake owners out there.

I thought maybe it was because he was about to shed, but nope. lol
