Anti-Gravity Corn

BigMamma

BigMamma
Okay, my little guy was becoming VERY territorial of his cage, so I put him in a 55 gal with some branches and a "pond" (i'll have to take a pic) with some fake folliage. He has two hides one on each side, and two water sources on each side. but he plasters himself to the top of the cage: on top of the lip of the cage, but under the screen.

(maybe anybody else reading this can give me some insight. Is it just him being nervous/stressed in his new surroundings? Or am I missing something? humidity is within range, there is a good temp. gradient, and he has his old hide from his old tank. I haven't tossed the old reptile bark, should I put some of that in his new enclosure for a "home" scent?)

I think it's bothering me more than it bothers him...but I'm scared he's not going to drink anything, or that he's going to get stuck.....or even worse, fry himself under the heat lamp. I just moved it up higher so I don't have a crispy snack when I get home from work in the AM's.

So yeah, as cool as it is to have an anti-gravity corn snake and all......I'm worried he's too stressed or he'll be injured emotionally for life. (okay, not emotionally ruined, but how to figure this out?)

You should probably get an under tank heater and a thermostat to regulate the heat. Corns don't need the light, and the lights tend to sap humidity out of the tanks. If you place the UTH under half of his viv, you don't have to worry about him burning himself on the heat lamp.

Other than that, some corns do love to climb, just make sure your lid is secure so he can't wriggle out!

hahaha. thanks everybody!

Well, I'm definatley going to be getting an UTH I hear they are a good way to go. he's still plastered up there by the way. hehe. no crispy critter either...yeay

My corn does this all the time. I provide him a branch so he can safely get back down.

Well, I ghetto-rigged his grass/straw hide by wiring it to the top of the tank where he likes to go, it's by some "vines" so he can get in and out. It looks more like a nest or basket. at least this way when I go to change his water he won't escape on me. I'd hate to have to crawl behind/under my dresser to retrieve the vicious little guy!!

:crazy02:Is it you who controls the snake or the snake who controls you:crazy02:

mine does that too, it's his favorite place. it's funny though when he thinks he can still fit up there with his food bump after he eats.

He LOVES his new hide. He's always in it. and it's easy for him to get in and out of.....I did watch him try to get into it the other night, and he's trying to use his gravity defying talents by slithering straight up there....it took him a few tries before he finally decided to use the vines. hehe.

That is so cute. I go to the dollar store and get the fake vines to put around the tank. I actually knotted about 5 feet of plastic vine together loosely and made a kind of bush. My Amber corn LOVES it. I also tape them around so she can crawl up them. I usually change the vines with the season as long as they dont have any glitter or anything else on them. My snake gets really excited when I change the tank and has to explore :)

mind doese it to
