Hi all, been a quiet reader for a while, this is my first post. I have a baby bloodred corn and he is my most favorite thing in the world. My maternal instincts seem to have kicked in big time. Unfortunately during his last shed (his only shed with me and quite possibly his only shed ever, they didn't give records but he was not more than a month old when I got him) he ended up with a very stuck tail tip, only about a centimeter but enough and try as I might, I can't help him get it off. I have tried soaking it, soaking him, wet wash clothes, wet paper towel, most recently a little oil on the tip. Nadda. It's stuck. Any advice, hes got to be due for another shed soon, will that one help get the excess off?

He's soaked probably at this point like four or five different times since, for about 10-15 mins each time. I'm scared I'm going to traumatize the poor thing, I've heard you could pull the whole tail tip off which is why I'm apprehensive of trying to help too much.

hello and welcome.

of you have tried and did not end up getting g the stuck shed off and lime you say he due for another one
. I'm guessing its been on their for more than a week.
in that case with his next shed he may lose the tip of the tail where the skin was stuck, it usually will cut off the blood circulation and result in the tail price falling off..

unfortunately if its at this point theirs not a whole I can suggest, I would for him shed and if it does break off a bit just make sure you keep him on paper towels and dry and warm and it will heal normally hell just have a shorter tail than the adverage corn.

best wishes on your next shed,
I hope this helped some,

if this is resent, then you can disregard my last post!
and keep attempting to get that shed off! ;)

good luck!
I would use nacies snake sauna method, hopefully she can set up a link for you.
as I'm mobile right now and not able too.. :(

but it does work!

The shed has been there for two weeks or so, its such a small portion and I've tried everything possible to get it off and it won't budge. I'm sick to my stomach at the thought of the poor little guy losing his tail.

If he's blue now, I'd put a bowl of damp moss in with him, for him to sit in, if he wants, and put a piece of plastic wrap over the top of his viv, loosely, and then mist him lightly once a day. If he's not blue yet, I'd try a couple soaks in room temp water, with a rough washcloth for him to slither through, as outlined in the sticky in the health section. I'd soak for 20-30 minutes, then VERY gently rub the skin.

If he loses his tail tip at the next shed, he'll be fine, and you probably won't even be able to notice, so don't stress out about it too much if it happens.

so i tried to put him in a container with water and a towel and he was so stressed in there i caved and let him out, he went into strike position as soon as i opened the lid and couldn't wait to get out and hide in his favorite hide. i'm scared he's going to hate me soon, he doesn't know i'm trying to help and just thinks i'm stressing him out with different crappy things every day.

trust me your doing the right thing,.
.. not so much by letting him out early.. but you tried!

I just want to let you know that he's not going to ever hate you.. snakes don't think or react like dogs or cats do, he doesn't care trust me and he definitely wont ever hate or dislike you in anyway.

they act purley off of instinct not feelings. I can and will garentee that once this hole bad shed ordeal is over hell be fine and hell like you again. lol

keep trying!!!

Thank you so so much, I appreciate your positive feedback. Another thing I'm wondering about is yawning? He's opened his mouth twice as big as he can, then shut it again and continued slithering around my hands, he seemed nonchalant about it but it startled me and I'm wondering yawn? aggressive? hungry? Any in put is appreciated.

probably just a yawn.. lol nothing to worry about!

its when they keep yawning and or sneezing and you hear a wheezing sound, it may be a respatory infection.. but just a yawn it two here or there is perfectly normal he may have just been tierd or realigning his jaw. :)

Keep in mind that your animals health has to come before him "liking/hating" you. Unfortunately, getting stuck shed does usually stress the animal out, but in most cases it is better than them losing tails/toes/etc. If I were you, I'd just keep a moist hide with damp moss/coco-fibre in his cage at all times now. Also, a water bowl large enough for him to soak himself in.

I put him in a damp towel and make him slither through and gently holding his tail each time until it comes off. May take half an hour of repeated doing It but should work

Gently hold his tail So It's a bit of a pull to get away. Not too much, but should be noticeable..tiny bit of pressure
