Anyone interested in buying 8x10 (or bigger) photos?

I just got this really amazing printer and have been having a ball printing out 8x10 and 8.5x11 glossy prints that look every bit as good as anything I can get out of a professional studio. I'm thinking about printing up a handful of some of the best ones and take them to the shows with me to sell.

Do you all think they would be saleable? The only time I have done something like this was with my smiling leopard gecko photo, and results were so-so with sales. I like my corn snake photos, but would people really be willing to spend money for them? Heck, the photos of a Butter Stripe and those Lavender Motleys take my breath away in an 8 x 10.

I could probably do some sort of calendar like was mentioned a while back, but I think the cost per page doing it on this printer would make a 12 or 13 page calendar prohibitively expensive. I haven't figured out how many photos I can get out of an ink cartridge set, but a complete set (there are 7 cartridges in a set) will cost around $70. Fortunately I can replace individual colored cartridges, so it won't be as bad as it sounds. I hope. I'm hoping I can get enough prints from a set to be able to sell them for $10 to $15 each. Good photo quality paper costs between 50 cents and $1 per sheet as well.

Oh yeah, this printer can do 13 x 19 prints as well, but I haven't tried one of them yet.

Boys and their toys...........

Anyway, you won't hurt my feelings if you say this is a really dumb idea......

I would...

buy some of the pictures. My daughter WANTS snake pictures for her bedroom walls. I think it is a great idea.

Well, to start off with, I could print up any of the photos here in this photo gallery section. I was doing a few last night and got some EXCELLENT results using 8.5x11 sheets. Definitely suitable for framing.

The printer is an Epson Stylus Photo 2200. I can also print out banners that are 44 inches long with this thing. I'm thinking a horizontal series of photos would look rather neat this way. But I'll bet I had better have a bunch of extra ink cartridges standing by!

Thanks for the feedback.

rich you should make a picture booklet with all of your pictures in it and the name of the morph! I would pay for a ook like that, i would also buy prints the way you are talking about.

I like the idea. I would buy some. I know my kids would like to put some up in their rooms.

I think thats the printer my husband wants to get me. He keeps trying to get me to go look at one. I keep telling him, a digi camera and new printer are NOT going to improve my sorry picture taking ability:rolleyes:

I don't know about that book idea. Let's see, 100+ photos at $10 to $15 each and then the cost of binding...... Who has that kind of money to spend?

Rich,
I like the idea--but I think your right about the calender--my money, at that rate is going toward the REAL thing!

Matt

If you could do a full bleed 8.5"x11" on this one..

I'd probly slip you 10 bucks :)

And Rich, Alicia said "booklet" not encyclopedia, heh. Presumably something like 5.5"x8.5" pages (regular 8.5x11 folded in half) with two pics per side of each page. Those you could probably get mass printed fairly cheap - or even do yourself. 100 pics, 8 pics per page, that's only a dozen or so pieces of paper - and you wouldn't have to go full-on 1440dpi glossy on that one.

Could be a good book, and would allow easy browsing if people did want to order "full size" prints :)

I'm with Axe...that picture is my absolute favorite ever and I'd certainly be willing to pay for a print, probably a couple others too. I think it is a really neat idea.

OK, well it sounds like some people are interested in this idea. Let me figure out how much it is going to COST me to make each print and see about how to send out the pics. I believe I can get tubes from the post office, since that would probably be the safest way to send them. Of course, I hope to be able to take a bunch of them to the shows, but I have to see about the time I have available. I've got taxes breathing down my neck right now.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm going to start going through my photos to see which ones are likely candidates.

I think it'd be a great idea, esp if you put them behind a nice frame. I've thought about doing the same with my photos with the purchase of my new HP photo printer. The quality really is amazing.

I would buy some of your pictrures, my roommate would freak out but hey I woud sti buy some.:D

I have some of them listed on my SerpenCo site. I had to charge $20 because I am putting them in a frame, which costs me around $4. If you would prefer just the photo itself in a rolled tube that you would have to mount in a frame yourself, I could sell it for $15. I probably need to show that as an option on my price list, I guess.

Thanks!

That was just one of the interesting things that happen. A friend of mine and I went camping down in South Carolina many years ago. At night we would go to the back of the state park we were staying at and climb a fence into a nearby pasture with a lake. LOTS of gators out there with the eyes shining in the flashlight beams. In one area we found PILES of bones from some animals. We had no idea what was going on there, but it definitely had us looking over our shoulders!

Anyway, this big bull frog obviously got mesmerized by the flash light and I was able to just walk over and pick him up without any struggle at all. He was so placid that I was able to just prop him up against a tuft of grass and he remained there for quite a while. I was laughing so hard that I am amazed that any of the photos turned out decently. Guess it was a lucky thing that whatever made those piles of bones nearby didn't hear me!

here is my "best" frog.....more or less a normal pic compared to yours (very big!)
my frog
Rich, the lavender blood pic - is that a whole clutch of them:p
