Anyone use Mazuri Rodent food for their feeders?

I buy 50lb bags of Mazuri Rodent Feeder pellets for my feeder mice. The price has recently gone up from $18.59 / 50lb bag to $19.04, now it's at $21.31 per bag. Sheesh!! I usually buy 100lbs at a time, which lasts me a few months.

I was wondering if anyone else uses it, what kind of prices are you getting?

I did until a while back. The price kept going up here, too. We'd order a couple bags every other month or so, and the price would be steadily increasing every time we ordered. OUCH. It was good stuff.

I just was "forced" to re-activate our business account with Harlan. Now, we use the same diet they use for their breeding colony of research mice (can't get a better recommendation for that), and we get it for about $12-13/bag. Each bag is only 15kg (~33lbs), but that is still cheaper than the Mazuri was heading...and this is much better. The old stuff was good, but this is BETTER. I'm glad for the switch. We just had to buy over 1,000lbs of it to make the 1.5hour trip to Houston worth it......lol. ROAD TRIP!

No regrets. See if your local supplier can order Harlan...maybe it'll be a little cheaper?

Thanks for the info, I'll look into Harlan. Is it the same big feed block size as Mazuri? I use lab cages with a drop down feed bin. (from Big Apple Herp)

The feed store I get my Mazuri Rodent pellets went up a little in price, but that was sometime around mid '07. I get a quantity discount and pay $16 (plus tax) per 50lb for 5 or more bags. And since I will go through 250 lbs in about a month, it's not a problem for me to get that much at a time.

And in case anyone is wondering, I have 300 breeder mice and 60 breeder rats, plus any babies.

I pay $20 and some change for a 50# bag of 6f from mazuri. I like it, no problems, i do supplement my deer mice with some seeds for a little extra fat.

I keep hearing horror stories from a feeder breeder at the local show about how grain prices have skyrocketed and feed prices will be going up significantly in the next year.

If its as serious as he makes it out to be, F/T prices will be going up eventually as well.

I use the Mazuri 6F breeder formula which is specially formulated for Rats. 50# bag runs about 19.00 with the state sales tax figured in. I only raise rats and a few hamsters at this point and this seems to serve me well with regard to the rats. With 40 rats 50# lasts me about a month. The feed mill is out of the way in another town so I get enough of the bedding and feed so I only have to make the trip about every month or six weeks. As my snake population grows so will my rats but I cannot see me going over needing 100# of feed a month. Only time will tell.

grain prices

Between the honey bees dieing for an unknown reason and gas being traded more than most stocks everything that is harvested, processed, transported or otherwise is going up in price. All because a bunch of people found they make more money trading barrels of oil than stocks.

A quick bump on this one;

I've used about 1o brands/varieties for my feeders and recently have settled on Kent rodent diet as the best price/performance ratio

Right now buying a pallet gets me bags @ $12/5o#, single bags are more in the $15 range.

The quality I'm seeing is fantastic; I isolate my female rats when they are heavily gravid so as to prolong the cycle; it fits the bill to get them safely into nursing and back up to weight.

Just a plug for my new buddies @ the Kent foods ; ]
