Aquarium Decor

I totally agree with you. The reptile sections of most mainstream pet stores is focused on looking natural, which leaves the handful of people who want to deck out their tank dissapointed. I've found many little castles and decorations that would make a cute viv decoration. You just have to be VERY careful in what you get - if anything has holes or any way of the snake getting in, you're going to be stressed trying to get him/her out. Only buy solid decorations and sterilize them. :]

do a search for a thread called "show me your vivs" or something along those lines. You'll find pics of a whole bunch of vivs which should give you ideas of other things you can use to decorate your tank other than stuff found in pet stores. (fake plants, for example)

Exo-Terra has come out with some really nice stuff (hiding rocks, trees, cacti, etc.) but overall, the aquatic section of my store has about 40 times the shelf space dedicated to decor. A lot more people keep aquariums, and have for a long time. The industry will make it if they feel it will sell, though. We're starting to see stuff pop up I couldn't have imagined when I was a kid!

On the same note...I was wondering if their is a product that is like a background for a viv. I always look at the selection of aquarium backgrounds but they are always geared more towards aquatics.

If you do a google search on "vivarium backgrounds," you'll find a lot of scenes that would look nice.

For plants and such, craft stores like Michael's or JoAnn's have much cheaper greenery than pet stores.

They make a line of foam-type backgrounds that look like rock outcrops. Our grow-out beardies love hanging out on 'em!

Is it just me, or are those way better than the stuff in the reptile section?

I found the cutest stuff in the HERMIT CRAB section today!! Some cool stuff ... especially the little hides ... and water dishes ... LoL
