Pet Corn Snake

Right, I'm reallly annoyed.
My mum and her boyfriend keep getting at me about a trip we are supposed to be going on..
My grandparents paid a few K for this trip and invited us along, but I can't because of my reptiles and work.
My mum won't leave me by myself for 4 days because we are new to the area and the nextdoor nabours are weirdos.
So she's saying that now because I won't arrange a petshop to look after my reptiles, they can't go on the trip..
She's trying to use a giltrip on me, but there is no way on this earth that I'm sending my reptiles that I care for to a petstore, I'm not selfish enough to do that to them.

I mean, guys, is there anyway I can work around this?

My snakes get water-changes everyday, so that means I would not be changing there water for 4 days :/
Frank would be on a timer with his lamps, and again, no fresh food or water for 4 days
the snails would be the same
the leopard gecko would be the same :/

I don't know about snail care....and I don't know how often Frank eats, but the snakes and the gecko should be fine for 4 days on their own.

The snails each pretty much everyday, and the tortoise does too..
I'm less worried about Frank, to be honest, because they hibernate for months without food.. But the leo and the snails eat a lot..

When I had my leo I went on vacation and she was fine for 5 days. Maybe just feed her good before you go.
The snails are more problematic, I know nothing about them!
Do they eat plants? Would it be possible to set them up with a living edible plant to eat while you are gone? Something like a small potted mustard or lettuce variety?

That's a good idea, I will have to double check with the snail forum, but I think that's a great idea! :)

I would like to set frank up with a live food supplie, but getting dandilion seeds is really hard, ill check ebay again!

great idea! thanks!

George hun, aren't dandelions a weed across the pond like they are over here in the states?
Getting dandelion seeds is EASY!!
After the yellow flowers turn white and "wispy" the fluff has the seeds attached and the wind spreads the seeds.

Buy a few tubs of live cress from the supermarket salad section. The snails can graze on that for a couple of days at least.

Agreed the snakes will be fine without a water change for four days. If you're worried, put an extra bowl in each tank - they're statistically unlikely to poop in both in the space of four days!

Boarding your pets out at a pet store isn't "selfish" if you have one that you trust - it's sensible. I couldn't go on holiday without my local reptile shop to mind my "special needs" cases. Ease up on yourself. Do you think folks with reptiles never take a vacation? Heavens, we're not as good as you think we are!

Thanks for your replies :) I never thought about getting the seeds naturally lol! :D

-.-

Thanks bitsy :) I'm knew to the area and don't have a trusted petstore yet, but theres loads round here so I'm sure I will find one soon :D

George, will Frank eat hay? Here you can buy all different kinds of hay for rabbits, that grazing tortoises can eat, if they feel like it. Or how about some kind of tortoise pellets?? Can you get Mazuri there? My guys love that! Ask Elle about the snails- maybe you could leave them a head of lettuce, cut in half. It would rot, but they sort of like that.
