Ate pinky wrong way

Spot the corn

New member
I feed my baby corn with tongs and I droped the pinky, before i could get it Spot grabbed it by the butt and ate it. Is this okay and if not what should I Watch for or do to help him. It went down kind of slow but be seems to be okay. I might just be paranoid. :eek1:

the natural way is to eat the prey head first but all snakes are different if he does this with all the feedings and seems fine (hasnt regurged or any of that bad stuff) then i would just grab the mouse by the tail and wiggle head in front of the snake so thats where it will strike

My snakes eat head or butt first and i havent had a problem with either way...so i dont see if being a problem, guess it depends on your snake..

My snake almost always eats bum first. It's perfectly fine :D the only thing is it's a bit harder to get down because the mouse' legs stick out more. That's why it took a bit longer to get down.

I have to agree that it takes some time for the snake to ingest the mouse because the mouse's legs stick out more. LOL! My gopher snake had a hard time once taking a hopper from the rear.

I was watching one of my baby corns eat a pinky last night and it grabbed the pinky from the middle. It was a little amusing watching the corn trying to eat it from the middle. It wouldn't let go of the pinky for about two minutes...it finally figured out that taking it from the head first was much better.

LOL! That's funny that this should be posted today...

I just got my new Okeetee on Sunday and fed her a fuzzie today and she did just that... ate it bum first.

I think it's kinda cool when it happens... at least a good moment for photography. The one time Ive seen one of my snakes take a mouse that way it was a pinkie and he was relativly small.. looked like the mouse was wearing a snake hat. I didn't have my camera handy unfortunatly.
I'm still waiting for my next chance

yep...

Yep, perfectly normal! Yes it's true they tend to take the meal head first, but sometimes they are just too exited to care. I had a female adult corn grab her mouse by the tail, constrict, and start eating it tail first. Not hind end first, had to chomp down that tail, then to the hind end...it was funny to watch. I just shook my head. silly snake!

as for you being paranoid, well, better to be safe than sorry! Always good to ask questions.

My biggest snake Buck eats back-end first most times, he starts with a back leg and the tail gets folded down. It does look awkward but he manages it ok. I'll try to get a pic, but due to Murphy he'll probably eat head first now

Excellent photo, Plums, I don't stand a chance of getting one as good as that, but I'll try :grin01:

my corn has eaten a few pink mice butt first and it doesnt seem to affect anything, unless your corn is sick or something i wouldnt worry about it.
