Atlas - Stripe Creamsicle

Today, we brought home a new snake from Dallas Repticon!

This little guy has been named Atlas, on account of all the nose pushing he did on his deli cup for the first part of the ride home. I covered him up with a light knitted jacket and hr rode the rest of the way home curled up quietly. He's settled into his new home.

He came from Don at Shores Enuff Snakes.. Based on what info I can gather off his deli cup, I think he hatched 6-23-14. I think there are feed and shed dates on there also? I'm not sure. His weight upon arrival home was 200g.

Now, the fun part!

So we double checked, and the setting on the scale was on 'gn' (grain?) instead of gram. I thought that sounded off but figured my snake weighing skills were just rusty. So we annoyed Atlas and re-weighed him. 12.7 ounces - that sounds much better. Thanks for the heads up!

Grams! 12.7 grams!

It has been a very long day.

Lol, I can imagine.

And even though it's a happy stress, bringing home a new pet is always a little stressful for you as well as for the pet. We acknowledge the pet's stress and often ignore our own.

Tonight, I got the vines scattered throughout Atlas' viv. Hopefully they will make him feel more secure. He's still curled up in the back of the tortoise shell hide, which is more or less where he's been since we brought him home on Saturday.

Today is feeding day! I snapped this body shot on my bed (forgive my yellowed down comforter) to show his pattern.

Here's a pic of him peeking out of his deli cup after being weighed - 13 grams.

Also, he has an excellent feeding response! As soon as he realized what the pinkie was, he went right to eating. I've explained to my seven year old that now we let him rest until Friday so his food digests.

I'll second that on the sweet faces. You little guy is adorable. He looks like he is ready for a mouse to come his way, too.

Update: A few new pics after his first shed with me (which was far from 'perfect' but we'll get it figured out).

I love coming into the room and catching him just cruising around in his viv. Most recent measurements are 17.5 inches length and 15 grams. Here's a photo of him out and about in his 40gal tank. He's on the end side which measures 18 inches.
