Attaching probe to tank

I would like to attach the thermometer probe to the bottom of my tank to insure temps are taken at the same place always. What works? Silicone??
Anyone do this? Also any problems with moisture gettting on probe when washing? Got one damp and it went a bit wacky but dried it and it came back in half hour or so.
Any help would be great!!!

I have heard, or been told very firmly that tape is a no-no. Hard to get adhesive off snakes.
But lets see what others say!!!

My snakes love to go under the newspaper I use as substrate and find it all over. Makes it hard to dial in regular heat. Wish Mine would leave them alone!

Silicone works, and you could also try that tacky rubber stuff that you use to stick things to walls. No way that would stick to a snake.

Thanks Nanci,
Thought I had read silicone. Anyone remember the safe drying time (curing time) for silicone? Or Is there anything else thats pretty permanent I can use thats safer?

Do you really want it permanent? What if it breaks or simply quits?

I believe I heard 24 hours. Pretty sure that was it.

I just lay mine inside the warm hide.

Ok your right 100% for life would be a mistake, Thermometers are pretty cheap and will need changing. Silicone it will be then!!
Thanks all!!!!

Aquarium sealant :) Put a pretty large blob, about 1/2 inch or so high, on the bottom of the tank, allow to dry thoroughly, then with a craft knife, cut a slit down the middle, to the bottom of the tank and wedge the probe down in the slit :) It's not permanent but is pretty durable, and you can slide the probe out for cleaning, then replace it after.

Hope that's helpful, best wishes,

Mine came with suction cups...its been a month and they havent moved an inch. As long as the bottom is glass they should work great.
