Saw this guy today at work. I have seen four snakes out and about this spring; a banded watersnake, a black racer, a greenish rat snake, and this cottonmouth.

They are hot, yes? I'm not afraid of snakes but he looks pissed. I'd gladly leave him alone. XD

I was cornered in a feeding trouph by one when I was a kid. My grandfather rasied sheep and when they would let them in the barn I would get in the feeding trouphs so I wouldn't get ran over. I startled a cotton mouth and he had me pinned against the wall, striking at me. I was screaming like someone was ripping my liver out. That was the first and ONLY time I ever saw my grandfather kill a snake. It was a no no on our farm.

I'm glad someone is seeing snakes. Nice photo.

I'm in S.W. Florida and have been searching every single day for about a month and l've only seen racers and one rattler.
I've never seen a place so void of snakes:headbang: The funny thing is I moved here because I thought the snake hunting would be great...boy was I ever wrong. I've yet to even see a garter snake. :)

I've only seen garter snakes in the morning around eight/nine in the morning, look around mossy tree roots near streams, turn over some stones and watch for spiders. They like it damp and chilly.

Cottonmouths are not known to kill people, but their venom is painful and the bacteria can cause nasty infections. Copperheads have a more potent venom, but they're more likely to deliver a dry bite. I'm doing research for a bio presentation, so I'm becoming a hot snake smarty-pants.

Wow. Great pic!
Those are some nasty-looking teethies!

Cottonmouths won't kill you, but I've heard that you will be in more pain than you have ever been. (This was an account from a man, though, so I don't know how something like childbirth would compare)

Nope.
Why do you think this? In fact, the cottenmouth is far more potent than the copperhead. Wet Bites from cottenmouths ARE fatal if not treated.

Ok. I should have said PROBABLY won't kill you, given that you actually get medical attention.
There are lots of things that suddenly become fatal when you cut off access to medical help.

saw a pair of wild cal kings mating today... then 10 feet from them I saw a mole pup squeekin... I know what one of them had for a post lovin snack!!!
