If I have a corn snake and a dog at the same time, will there be any animosity? Do any of you own dogs and snakes? My dog ADORES my bed, and my new snake will be in the same room...?

Any tips?
 
I got dogs and snakes and they don't know each other exist.....LOL
Just don't show them to one another...
BTW what dog is it...It could make a difference...
 
He's a four year old Portuguese Water dog. I don't think he'd try anything, he's such a sweetie pie, but I just wanted to make sure.
 
I have dog, cats, birds, and soon to have snake.

Basically, like someone else mentioned...no need for the dog to know the snake exists, and vice versa. When you take the snake out don't have the dog around, don't shove the snake in the dogs face, etc... When the snake is in the enclosure most likely the dog won't pay much attention to it.
 
I have three dogs and six snakes. There's never been a problem, but I wouldn't recommend doing things like putting the snake on the dogs head or body to take silly pictures. One strike could lead to one bite which could easily lead to dead snake.

*edit* Oops, basically I just said the same thing that Zoo girl mentioned above. Sorry, but still sound advice.
 
I have a Golden Retriever who pretty much loves everything in the world. I hold my snakes while he is around and there are no issues. He is actually more inclined to show interest in the lizard vivs-- not because of the lizard, but because of the crickets in the viv. He likes watching them. :bang:

But literally allowing a snake to be out with a dog, or even a cat (if it's a small snake) can quickly lead to problems. One bite is good enough to kill a snake or maim it.
 
I have a cat that likes to come in my snake room any time I go there. My cat doesn't pay too much attention to the snakes...he's more interested in the mice. My cat did get tagged by my male miami though a while back. I avoid handling my snakes while the cat is there. Tail rattling sends my cat running...that just freaks him out LOL
 
I've got a german shepherd dog, she is very inquisative & looks into the viv of my 2 corn snakes & my gecko's viv, is interested when the snakes are out but i wouldn't allow her to get to close.

My old minpin used to bark at them. She found my king that had been missing for a couple of months. But she was trying to kill it for me. So yeah...not a good match for in person stuff. Just keep them apart when you have the snake out and you will be fine. My whippets totally ignore the snakes even when they are out.

I just have to say I LOVE whippets! Well I should say I like most sighthounds...I've always been a fan of greyhounds and salukis (and afghans, borzois, etc...). I opted to get a chinese crested instead...but he does have that sleek sighthound-like appearance.
 
We have 3 dogs and 7 cats. The dogs don't even know that the snakes exist and the cats are very curious about them but the snakes don't seem to be too bothered by them. We try to keep the cats away from their viv when we catch just so the snakes don't get stressed out. However, over the past couple of weeks the cats barely even notice when we have one out with us.
 
I would just reccomend that the snakes enclosure is higher than the dogs height. I had to raise some of my encosures because the dog would look in and some of the more agressive snakes (not corns) would strike the glass in turn setting off the dog (smooth fox terrier) to bark and growl like a loonie.
 
My sweetheart of a Golden who's 10 years old either jumped on or bit one of my yearling corns when she escaped. It was a shock as he'd never even been interested when I've had them out.

The corn was injured but after about a year shows no signs of injury. They're amazing.
