Bay area feeders

curiousL

Daytona...what a blast...
Was wanting to know out of those here in the bay area where they get most of their feeders and how big the demand is, there seems to be little available therefore the online purchasing comes more into play. Just curious! Anybody in the Northern Cali area have problems finding feeders and/or good breeders???

Where are you in the bay area?
I used to live in Novato there wasn't any good pet stores locally but I'd drive to East Bay Vivarium to get feeders in bulk sometimes. Then my collection grew to the point where it made more sense to get them online. There's a lot of good breeders down there. Carol's in Morgan Hill.

Actually yes I know Carol she is friends with my boyfriend. I was just curious of where everyone gets there stuff, just wanted to kind of see, there aren't many "good" pet stores around our area (Antioch, CA). We are breeding our own mice but have far to go, but we are purchasing on line frozen right now, so we'll see! Thanks for the reply! Why did you move?

The price of mice from local pet shops is something we(Lara and I) talk about often because it seems to be so high. East Bay Vivarium isn't too bad considering what everyone else charges. The place closest to us sells pinkies for $1.53 each. I don't know about everyone else but I think that is expensive. We've got about 25.69 breeder mice but we're trying to get to a 25.140 male/female ratio before feeding off any females. We have about 60 corns and we're anticipating 70 - 100 hatchlings so food for the snakes is a constant topic of conversation at our house. Lol.

There is no way a pet store in this area is going to compete with the cost of frozen feeders or raising them yourself. To give them some credit, the overhead in this state is outrageous. I have done the math, and when you get into the kind of quantities I do, buying in bulk is much cheaper than if I raised them myself. My mouse orders range from 500-1000 of various sizes at a time, depending on my need and pocketbook at the time.
By the time I add substrate, food, and factor in cleaning time, I definitely come out ahead buying frozen. Also in my situation at my job, they will let me work as many hours as I am willing to work. I actually have to fight to keep my schedule to part time. So when I factor in my time in hours I think about how much money I'd make if I spent those hours at work instead. Especially since I enjoy my job more than cleaning mice tanks, and the more I am there, the easier things are for me the rest of the week. I really only keep the mice for hatchling season when there are always a few that insist to start off on live. Plus to have a little fun with their genetics. It's such a different world being able to get F2's so quickly.
LOL. Just some ramblings....

OK
Antioch is kind of far from the person I was thinking of (in Petaluma) who does sell mice, but like Carol said you still can't beat buying online in bulk if you have a lot of reptiles, hope your mouse breeding works out.
I've been wondering myself why I moved, and seriously thinking of going back. I did it after I lost my job (had only 19 days left to complete the probation) and I needed of a change of scene, and took advantage of a very inexpensive home for sale up here. I'm considering putting it on the market and selling it, make a little $ and move on. I am kind of dissapointed by the economy here, jobs pay very little. I have a few leads I am following but if they do not pan out I may be out of here! Unless my business takes off this year... lol probably more than you wanted to know.

Gosh... this typo was just too dumb...

I meant or raising them yourself.

I wondered about that when I first read it. Lol. That's ok... I can't remember how many times I've reread something I wrote and quickly went in to edit it.
