Bedding Question!

What do you all use for bedding/substrait for your corns? I'm currently using Beech Chips but am thinking of switching to something else so need your imput!

Mine was on paper for a while then I decided to go more natural seeing as he poops good and in the same spot! I changed it out to aspen and he seemed to LOVE it. I always catch him out digging around and "playing" in it.

We were not changing the whole substrate out very often, just picking up poos and tossing in another handful, and then we got a stinky problem. So we are now changing it out every month, slightly longer or shorter depending on if you can smell anything.

Also we have to be careful not to spill water or put anything back wet after washing as it will make the aspen stinky much more quickly.

We use aspen on all but one of ours (our snow girl is just finishing her regurge protocol and will move back to aspen, but we've had her on newspaper just for ease of spotting more problems)

The snakes seem to love burrowing in it, even our adults. They spend long periods of time bulldozing their litter from one area to another and then burrowing into it (reminds me of kids playing in the leaves in the fall )

We just re-did the viv for our snow and put the aspen in really thick. The next morning you could see tunnel entrances all around! So cool, and they seem to just love it.

Sorry to resurrect this thread, I swear this isn't a common thing for me, but I have a question regards this subject & wasn't sure about making a new one.... so 'Search' function was used.

I'm currently using aspen for Leo but went to the pet shop as he's due a clean out tonight but they only had beech chippings and mentioned that they tend to stock it more than they do aspen.

Leo likes his burrowing etc but looking at the chippings that I bought they don't look as soft as aspen - will he still be okay, should I lay them in relatively thickly as I do for aspen so he can try & burrow or will he prefer not to with the difference in the substrate?

Look for aspen in the rodent section instead of the reptile section. Same stuff, much cheaper. I am not familiar with beech. Aspen is plenty soft and "fluffable", and my kids love to burrow in it.

It's a small pet shop - the bedding stuff is all in the same section & still not there, the only real bedding for rodents is sawdust & the wash cloth like stuff.
