I use repti-bark unless I'm suspected one of my snake to be sick. if so, i'll use towels to keep a eye on the poop of that snake. I found that repti-bark just look nicer, my snakes loves to hide in it and it help to maintained a good humidity degree. The price is not a problem since my girlfriend works in a petshop and she pay haft the regular price for it. lol

Newspaper is my substrate of choice for racks. I do use turf in my display cages, but it can get a little frustrating cleaning, cutting it just right, waiting for it to dry... it just looks nice to me so I put up with the maintenence.
Aspen is nice for larger snakes, but I worry about missing a regurge or bad poop with babies.

I use carefresh for my snakes....it looks good, and it absorbs a lot of moisture, which is good because my corns are messy getting in and out of their water bowls. It's made from some sort of wood pulp stuff that is not treated with chemicals...I haven't used anything else, because I've had a large bag of the stuff around since before I got rid of my chinchilla. I'll probably go for something cheaper after I use all this up, though.

I use newspaper - Not only is it easy to clean up - it's safer

Most other beddings can carry fungal infections and parasites but newspaper and paper towels don't

Carefresh is great!

I have used Carefresh since it first became available, and have never had a problem with it.
It allows the snakes to burrow, it reduces smells, and, in small quantities at a time, it is even flushable!
No dust - no allergies.
I am one of those rare people who has allergic reactions to Aspen, so Carefresh has been a God-send for me!
Yes, it costs a little more, but I don't have a HUGE collection of snakes, and my lungs appreciate it! :)

hi, what do you clean your vivs out with as at the moment i am just using very hot water as i dont know what is best for my snake..

any advice is most welcome.

thanks

Ria

that's technically a new post but

I use a 10% bleach solution, soak for an hour, wash with dishwashing detergent, dry in the sun (or indoors in bad weather) and use the clean cage for the following week. I use rubbermaids, and have two per snake, so just swap them out.
I have three Neodesha Plastics that I can't do that with, so just keep the display snakes in a rubbermaid until they are dry.
Others might think this isn't enough, but I've kept snakes this way for many, many years with good luck. I used to use aquariums, critter cages, all kinds of things and used bleach and dish detergent and simply towel dried.
They do live in the dirt and fields in the wild, although most wild caught do have some parasites, I'm told (but not entirely convinced.)

I am using astro turf right now because I am a new owner and its easier for me to keep track of his feces.but when I get more comfotable I will use aspen bedding
