The show was great and ... it was really awesome to, finally, meet you, in person, Tom!

If anybody would like to go to a well attended show... Hamburg, certainly, fits the bill.

It was great to meet you in person as well. I'm pretty certain that I've seen you at the Colombus show a few years back when I used to vend there.:shrugs:

Well, I finally got to see what the Hamburg show was like. Let me just say, if large crowds bother you, you'd better stay away. You practically had to wait in line to see what was at each booth. ( Luckily I had been warned about that previously! )

I went with hubby, my best friend K and another friend's teen-aged daughter, Lilly, who is now hooked on reptile shows. ( I'm such a bad influence on the younger generation:devil01: If I ever attend one without her, she may never speak to me again! ) Hubby and K wanted to check out Cabella's which was nearby so they dropped off Lilly and I and caught up with us later and I'm so glad they did! You just don't run into Cabella's for 5 min.! If I had been made to tag along after them B4 the reptile show, I would have been steaming by the time I had gotten there!

Anyway, it was quite an experience for both Lilly and I. I got to see several Gaboon vipers close up ( Gosh! They're pretty! ) the white cobra I had been told about and all sorts of other things. I'm sure lots of people from this list were there but with the crush of people that was there, it was easy not to bump into each other. Besides, my eyes were mostly focused down on the tables. I only lost Lilly once for about 5 minutes. ( You think its scary losing your own kid, try losing someone else's!) K came home with a boatload of frozen mice and Lilly bought another baby kingsnake. ( Yes, she had permission. She has much cooler parents than I did when it comes to snakes! I'm so jealous! )

I didn't come home with a snake because I ran out of $$$ getting supplies that I really needed B4 I brought home another reptile. But I collected cards from people who had some nice looking Kenyans and found out the next shows they'd be attending. ( Something I learned long ago: If you like someone's stuff but don't have the cash, always get their card! ) Also saw my first Saharan sand boas up close. I want some of those too! They were a lot cheaper!!! Why is that??? I didn't buy any because the females were gravid and I'm not bringing home a momma without a proper nursery. ( I also think it's a little early for me for that challenge! ) and the males were going through a really bad shed and the people manning the booth could only tell me that they had just gotten them in.

But all in all, it was a very good experience. I want to do it again when I have more $$$ in my pocket.

It is a possibility. I didn't attend the Columbus show, each/every month, but ... I did go on occasion.

You practically had to wait in line to see what was at each booth. ( Luckily I had been warned about that previously! )

You forgot to mention the perpetual "mile long" line just to get into the building.

The white cobra was pretty awesome. I am not positive but it looked, to me, like a Leucistic Monacled Cobra. That was the tamest cobra I have ever seen. I overheard the owner say that it is very used to humans, and human contact, because he had raised it, since the time it hatched, and handled it a lot.

Also saw my first Saharan sand boas up close. I want some of those too! They were a lot cheaper!!! Why is that???

I do not know, for sure, why they were cheaper but ... it could be due to those, that you were looking at, being WC individuals.
BTW Unlike most other Sand Boas, with the exception of the Arabian Sand Boa, Saharans are oviparous (egg layers) so, had you purchased a gravid female and did not know that, you may have been in for quite the surprise.

I WAS aware that they were quite probably wild caught. ( 1st red flag! ) And I knew that the females were gravid and eggs layers ( 2nd red flag! ) and although I would like someday to breed snakes, NOW IS TOO SOON! I don't have a serpent nursery set up and I believe in being prepared for such things! I gotta lot to learn between now and then. I would rather get a young snake and learn while its maturing. I also would like to find a supplier of Saharan sand boas that is helpful and I feel I can trust like Hillside Herps. That's the main reason I hesitated and I'm glad I did. I'm not comfortable with making snap decisions.

I thought you were asking why the Saharans were so cheaply priced ... so I just gave one possible reason for the pricing (It was not intended as a questioning of your knowledge as to whether they were WC or not)

What I meant, with my light hearted comment, is that you (or anyone for that matter) may have been in for a surprise if you did not know that Saharans are oviparous (I did not mean if you didn't know know they were gravid).
So, IOW, ~had~ you decided to purchase a gravid female (which I know you did not wish to and didn't), without knowing that Saharans are oviparous (unlike most other Sand Boas), you may have been in for a surprise if expecting live babies and not eggs.
I understood, from what you wrote, that you ~knew~ they were gravid ... and, also, that this was one reason you did not want to purchase one of those.
I, now, know that you were/are, also, aware that Saharans are oviparous (so I guess you wouldn't have been in for a surprise, regardless, after all ).
Bottom line is that it was just a light-hearted comment that wasn't intended to be taken so seriously.

Am just explaining things to clarify and ... because I do not quite know how to take where the caps, and exclamation point/s, are coming from.

BTW I commend you on wanting to learn more before proceeding into the breeding of snakes (be it Sharan Sand Boas or other snakes).
